Sound Butchers

During a Shetland holiday we bought our meats from Sound Butchers in Lerwick, and were delighted with everything. A huge range of meats, locally reared in many cases, excellent beef, pork, chicken, bacon, sausages, marinated meats and lovely local eggs. Very friendly staff.

My wife bought a tomahawk steak on Friday, which I cooked tonight. It was, without doubt, the finest piece of beef I have ever had the privilege to cook. Incredible flavour and texture. I have been lucky enough to eat in some of the world’s best steak restaurants, and this ranks in the top three I have ever eaten, alongside Peter Luger in New York and Rockpool in Sydney. I do hope it was Shetland beef, because it was extraordinary.
