Hi, 9 of us went for dinner at the Caban for my birthday last night. It's simply decorated and the food is out of this world. The owner and chef does different menu's everytime we have dined there. My partner has a nut allergy and they always have at least 2 meals per course that he can have. The food is inventive and delicious. I would highly recommend to any vegetarian/vegan and usually there is a meat course too if you don't want a vegetarian course. Please support this wonderful restaurant. Kate Wheeler

Three courses for a very reasonable sixteen pounds and definitely worth the price. The decor is reminiscent of a nice cafe but it is either intentional or well adapted to as the atmosphere doesn't feel cheap at all. Many vegetarian/vegan options but not exclusively so there are options for meat eaters. All this along with the monthly changing menu makes this a restaurant that is very inviting to return to.BYO wine offered, but expect a corkage fee.

One of the best places to eat in Cardiff. Tasty food and a menu that's always updated. Normally there are four options - 3 of which will be vegetarian. Staff are always very friendly. Only possible hang up is it often gets quite hot in there.

This is was a great cafe but it has closed down and it has now been replaced with no stars, the front window is caked in fly's and last night they decided to come out into the street drunk partying, this is illegal, none if residents have been asked about a drink licence and nobody has asked us, the residents of Clifton street and topaz street, they were all out in the street screaming and shouting,an Indian family with children came out of their house to confront them because their children were woken by the noise, the African people became angry and violent, how and why do the council and police allow this to happen?we will not put up with this

Don't let the outside appearance or the decor prevent you from experiencing excellent food and service.I've had two outstanding meals at the Canteen, the first I chose the meat dish and the second visit the vegetarian, both offered an harmonious combination of exquisite flavours and textures. We took our own wine and payed corkage which was reasonable. The staff have all been very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The chef came ran through the whole menu on our first visit and came to our table at the end of the meal keen to receive our feedback. Will be eating here on a regular basis, and cant wait to try the other menu's which change every 3 - 4 weeks.

We ate at The Canteen on Saturday night after coming to Cardiff for the Cheese Festival this weekend. We were looking for vege restaurants in the area we were staying (Roath) and read a few good reviews about this place online. It didn't disappoint. The food was wonderful. A vegetarian for 10 years, it has been a long time since I've tasted such delicious and subtle combinations of flavours. We both agreed that every mouthful was really fantastic. The service was also great, very quick and polite. Corkage on BYO was £2.50 and the music (Kings of Leon and Razorlight) was a bit weak but wasn't enough to spoil a great evening. We got the chance to give our regards to the chef who happened to be passing our table as we were leaving, he was extremely friendly and seemed genuinely pleased with getting some customer feedback.I would thoroughly recommend The Canteen and would certainly eat here again if/when we return to Cardiff.

Easily my favourite restaurant in Cardiff. Possibly anywhere. The menu changes every few weeks and I have always been able to try something different whenever I've come here. The chef is truly passionate about his work. Don't be surprised if he pops out later in the evening to say hello.

Delicious 3 course meal. Can't fault it. It's a simple restaurant with about 3 international choices for each of starter, main meal and desserts. 3 courses for £20. Open Friday and Saturday evenings only I think

As always, incredibly delicious and creative vegetarian food. I am not a vegetarian, but I love this place. They have a meat main on the menu, but generally you will be far better ordering veggie. The tofu burger was a particular highlight this time, but the menu changes monthly.

One of the best places to eat in cardiff regardless of whether you're veggie or not. The chef obviously understands about food, what flavours go with which etc . Lots of yummy vegan dishes too! All very reasonably priced considering the food is five star!
