Idyllic setting on the shore of Burgh island. Local beers and cider at normal prices, surprising given the setting. Quick friendly service but beware the £2 deposit on each glass ( plastic) if you want to go outside, a pain if there's a queue when you've finished

Great looking pub. Food reasonably priced but the Advocado and basil baguette was truly awful. The 2 quid deposit system on plastic glasses for outside is a shambles/con. You have to queue back up at the end of your visit to get it. Most people give up when busy. Surely a part of the bar could be put aside with a pile of pound coins for the staff to give back quickly? Disappointing food and management. I expected much better. Worth visiting for building and location though.

We visited many years ago had a wonderful drink and crab sandwich and we were very keen to repeat the experience, unfortunately the current crayfish and crab sandwich left a lot to be desired, although the staff were friendly and chatty, we won't be returning. £12 for a disappointing small baguette. Please read the reviews and act accordingly, it would make it a more memorable experience.Such a beautiful place

The pub is great the staff are friendly and I learned a lot and the wooden statue in the corner date's back to the 14th century. There is also an amusing original paper sign of the rules of the lodge one of which is, no more than 3 in one bed.

Friendly staff with good sense of humour. Love the idea of the refundable plastic cups to save items being broken and encourage them to be returned to the bar. Food was very reasonable and tasty

The most unpalatable meal I have ever eaten in my entire life! Pushy manager. Tiny excuse for a battered haddock which tasted of chemicals as if the fish had been kept for 10 years. Avoid like the plague!

Very tranquil. A lovely pub to visit via the mechanical machine during high tides. As the pub is separated from the mainland by the sea at certain times. I understand you can drive or even walk across during low tides. Meal portions weren't the best, we had fish n chips, with the size of the fish being more like a child's portion.. I definitely wouldn't eat there again. But worth a visit for a drink or two.

First visited the Pilchard in 1980 and spent an evening drinking with friends. Have returned a few times and unfortunately not the same. The price of a pint of Otter ale is £5.50 which is not unreasonable considering the location and history. The younger staff are not very friendly, which gives a bad impression straight away. The £2 deposit on a plastic glass is very strange. Presumably its so they don't get left outside and blown on to the beach or island.Did not eat here, so I can not comment on the reviews already submitted. It was very quiet on our visit at 5.30pm but just a great place to meet a friend walking the South West Coast Path.

An incredible historic pub that I hope remains open for another 686 years! We sat outside and enjoyed the view across the beach, tentatively watching the tide edge closer together to eventually maroon us (if not for the sea tractor!).Because we sat outside there was a mandatory £2 deposit per plastic cup which is unfortunate, I do prefer my beer in a glass (who doesn't!) but I understand why this is enforced.
