The boathouse tea room
A park with a reservoir, cold and wet when I visited, but the Boat House was warm and welcoming, a bit eclectic in food, beer and decor but if you need warming up after a cold wet walk there's nothing better.Parking and access could be a bit of an issue, best to leave the car near the road and walk.

After being recommended this place by a friend I was extremely disappointed and shocked when I visited the boathouse for breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the prices reasonable however the one thing that put me off and the reason I won't be going again is that dogs were roaming freely (despite a sign next to the bar stating dogs should be kept on leads at all times) all around the cafe, including the kitchen!! I'm guessing they were the owners dogs as about 3 or 4 of them wondered in an out of the kitchen and into the cafe area constantly going over to diners eating their food. This put me off my food once I realised what was happening and is completely unacceptable hygiene standards. Somehow you have a hygiene rating of 4. I also witnessed a dog taking food from a plate which is when I stopped eating. Will not be returning.

What a venue 10th August 2018 to celebrate my Daughters wedding , Ken and lovely wife could not do enough for us , so accommodating which made the day run so smoothly . The room was laid out perfectly with lovely covers on the seats . The views from the lawn across the lake are picturesque. We highly recommend the Boat House for any type of celebration . Thankyou so much for a perfect day . You were so attentive without being intrusive and lovely and friendly with a calm and relaxing attitude , as I have mentioned earlier nothing is a problem a definate can do attitude .Well done and good luck with your venue in the future.

The boat house has really changed over the last year. They are open all weekend and serve home cooked meals. Great if you have been for a walk round the dam then a pint and a plate of fish and chips. Really chilled atmosphere and great location.

Brilliant. Held a large party there in June. Ken and his staff could not be more helpful.A little gem recommend also for great value English breakfast or tea and cake..Dog friendly and a very lovely spot overlooking Carr Mill Dam open Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Just visited this so called 'bar and grill'. Not sure what they do that can class the place as a grill but it's more like a roadside cafe without the roadside. We ordered roast baguettes as there wasn't much else available on the menu other than snacks. Expected the roast baguettes to be hot but the meat was straight from the fridge. Ordered garlic bread. Got garlic mushrooms. Waitress who I think may have also have been the owner said we could have the mushrooms and she would get the garlic bread for us anyway. Still wasn't ready by the time we had eaten and finished our drinks so we left without the garlic bread. Roasties and gravy on the snack menu were £3.50. We got 6 frozen roasties in a soup bowl filled with watery bisto gravy. No check back on the table once we received the food otherwise I would have made them aware of the poor food. Whoever the owner/manager is, clearly has never ever had any chef/cooking experience. Had to leave our coats on to eat as it was so cold in there. Carpet needed a good hoover near where we were sat. Asked for some salt and got packet salt even though there was a pepper shaker on all tables. Very dated inside. We had read the poor reviews before arriving but we were close by and starving and thought we would give it a chance. Definitely won't be returning. Such a shame as it could be a lovely little restaurant if some time and money was spent. All in all, very poor experience
