I thoroughly enjoyed my 2-day woodworking course with Nick at Wharfedale Workshop. I found there was a really good balance of theory and practical, which is a great foundation for those just starting out at woodwork. I felt like I was one of the less experienced people on the course, but everyone there seemed to get something out of it - Nick really made the effort to understand our individual needs.

I attended the Wharfedale Workshop two-day program over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience. I’d highly recommend it.We were a small group of six people with a mix of experience. Nick was very thorough, patient, and competent and he passionately shares his knowledge, experience and skills with you. I liked the openness of his approach; there is always more than one way to do something and a variety of different tools you can use from the basic and relatively cheap to sophisticated and more expensive. This catered for our different needs, aspirations and budgets. If you want to learn some core techniques; cutting, squaring, planning, dovetailing, jointing etc. then this is a great course.Added a few photos of the finished activities - all hand made with simple tools.I’ve booked another course and when the project sessions provide the opportunity (fully booked at the moment) I’m be joining one of those.Highly recommend.

I’m a total woodworking novice. Or I was before a weekend with Nick. Honestly, I never thought I’d be able to make a dovetail joint, let alone one that looked half decent. I loved Nick’s patience, the pace of the class, the venue, the emphasis on finding your own way on your own budget, the generous advice and plentiful good-humoured encouragement. I’ll be back for more.

I had a fantastic time on a Handtool Weekend Workshop with Nick. I learned so much about wood, tools and techniques. I made my first dovetail joint, a mortice and tenon and set in a hinge among other skills. Nick is a patient, highly skilled and knowledgeable teacher, enabling everyone to work at their own pace whilst fitting a great deal into 2 days. Highly recommended!

I did the introduction weekend course with Nick at the Wharfedale workshop last weekend. I’m a complete novice having last done any woodwork at school 40 years ago! Nick was an excellent teacher, a great balance of instruction and hands on doing…you really do get straight into the deep end of hands one woodworking with great advice and guidance from Nick. My fellow classmates were also great and good company for the course. I was a little nervous it would be me and other expert woodworkers but actually everyone was great and of a similar level, if some had a little more experience. Overall I can’t recommend this enough.

The introduction to fine woodworking weekend course is a weekend well spent. It covers a wide range of things like sharpening, finishing, sourcing wood and the tools and techniques for making accurate joints. Nick is very knowledgeable, patient and a nice guy. I really enjoyed it, now I just need to practice what I learned!

Attended Nick’s weekend workshop. Learned so much about the importance of accuracy and careful preparation when carrying out ‘simple’ jobs such as cutting wood. I’ve made a dovetail joint and mortise and tenon. I’m now raring to go with my first project. Nick is a good guy and an engaging instructor.

Took a 6 week beginner woodwork course and finished with some new skills, a lovely box and all my fingers intact!! Not only did we learn to make the box but we also came away educated in many aspects of woodwork from wood selection, through use of a number of hand and electric tools, to tool maintenance and blade sharpening.Great teaching from Nick as well as lots of knowledge and patience, regular cups of tea and a very welcoming workshop.Would thoroughly recommend. Especially good biscuits in the final week ;)
