Port of Ness Slipway and Breakwater

Glorious sunshine and very windy in this gorgeous little slice of Scottish heaven. Just what's needed to blow away the cobwebs and feel alive.

Port of Ness harbour began construction in 1835 and continued up until 1940. During that time there were many fleets, However today, the fleets are non-existent and it’s only used by a few boats. There is a wonderful memorial which celebrates the success of the fishing fleets and commemorates those who lost their lives at Sea.The Port of Ness beach is very popular throughout the summer season and the area is nonetheless worth a visit and an explore all the way to the Lighthouse.Just for information, there are very few shops and eating places within the north of the Isle of Lewis so please carry out your research prior to visiting.There are a couple of campervan facilities along the road that provide water, showers, toilets and overnight stays.There are also some wild camping areas to explore via various apps.
