Godfreys of Romford offers great food, good service and a break from the norm.More people you speak to now agree that the Costas, the Starbucks and to a lesser extent the Cafe Neros, all have started to feel more corporate than a home-from-home. Their branding is very strict so every small detail is identical in all stores. The food is improving in Costa but still these big chains have pre-processed, pre-packaged food with long sell by dates to maximise chance of selling them. Not so in this small chain of a local bakers. Here in the Romford branch they slow roast overnight pork, gammon, turkey, chicken. Often you can have a plate of roast pork plus generous amounts of crackling and apple sauce. They ask if you'd like gravy and then make it fresh for you (it doesn't hang around in a jug on a heat pad like at Toby Carvery..). The cakes are mouthwatering and the Granary bread, baked fresh, is arguably the best you'll ever taste!Local radio plays in the background (Time FM) with jazzy 1950's tunes, 80's and some modern. Old sepia photos of the town as it used to be a hundred years ago decorate the walls making it feel homely.Helpful staff at this location also. Service with a smile

Nice affordable little bakery with friendly staff. The white bread really nice, soft, fluffy easy to eat. Do like it! They are making simple sandwiches; bread, butter, meet (gammon, turkey, bacon) and sauce if you want. It is really nice. Coffee wise they have to improve, it looks nice but tasteless. They do not have own WiFi but the market free WiFi enough strong to use it in the shop. Mobile signal wise it has a good coverage. Sandwich and a cappuccino around £5.20. cash and contactless card accepted. Down side they did not give a receipt. Looks like a clean place worth it to try!

My favourite in Romford. The slow cooked meats and sausages are a treat at affordable prices with great portions. Definitely recommended. No toilet and baby changing facilities which is odd given its a family visited restaurant! Although they class themselves more as a café. Still should have facilities!

Friendly efficient service, good choice and decent portions from cafe/takeaway. first place in town I think of when I fancy a bite and hot drink. Also the bakery section has some nice cakes [says the wife]. So go on treat yourself to some hearty home cooked grub

Visited on Saturday 14th December, no prices displayed anywhere, proceeded to order 3 sandwiches, 1 turkey, 1 gammon and 1 sausageabsolutely staggered to be charged £14.45, all sandwiches were dry and barely digestable and the bread was hardly buttered. All in all a thoroughly miserable experience. Should have gone to the tea stall in the Market Place

Bread is very nice. I tried several times the cake with pink glazing and coconut,it is realy good. It is the new favourite of my family. Today I tried the shortbread bisquites, shaped like faces. They were so good that I came back 5 minutes later to stock more. Everything I have bought there was always fresh and tastes like homemade. And the prices are more than acceptable.

Best sandwiches in Havering. Hands down. The fresh meat is amazing. Salt beef a particular favourite but all great.

Have tried a selection of their produce but have found them to be expensive for both cakes and bread but only average for quality. They go for size rather than taste.
