We had a very relaxed and enjoyable meal at The Royal Oak. The staff were helpful, attentive and nothing was too much trouble, even offering to take a family group photo. The menu was varied and offered great choice. It was beautifully presented and all meals were delicious. The drinks menu was also extensive offering both alcohol and non alcoholic options. My request to sit by one of the fires was no problem and all the interior areas of the pub had charm and character. My only down comment would be to improve the exterior as it is looking tired and not particularly welcoming unlike the interior.

Had a lovely dinner last night at this pub. It's a Beautiful venue with friendly staff, and the food was fantastic. 5 stars well deserved and we'll be coming back many more times!P.S. My wife really enjoyed the French Martini as well, it's rare to see it on a menu and rarer to see it made properly so special thanks to the bar staff for that one!

Only two people serving at this busy time of the year is a recipe for disaster. This review is not a reflection on the staff as they did do their best, however taking everything into account we felt we were in an episode of faulty towers. Some of the items we had pre ordered from the festive menu, were not available on the evening and the Roast Turkey arrived with at least one pound of brussel sprouts on the plate, which was most off putting. The meal itself was very salty and the Turkey very dry. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Such a lovely pub but we won’t be eating here again in a hurry.

The food was nice, especially the pork belly and chocolate brownie but the wait times were just too long. We spent significantly more time waiting than enjoying the food

I had dinner last night with my partner and elderly parents. The dining area seemed empty - however, we waited ages for the starters and main course. Mum and I wanted the prawns and salmon, but you had run out, so we had to choose something different. The table further down made a complaint about slow service and left. After we had been there an hour and a half and only completed the starters, my partner had a polite word with one of the waiters and our main course miraculously turned up moments later. The turkey dinner had too many potatoes, which were new and not roasted as stated on the menu. Both waiters were very nice and apologetic. I think the issue was that another table had put in a large order just before us which delayed things. It took so long that no one wanted dessert or coffee as it was getting late. We had a half hour journey to drop my parents home before another half hour journey to our home. We all had an early start on Friday morning. We have had dinner at your lovely restaurant four times now, and three out of those four times, I've had to choose something different because you had run out of the main course prawn linguine, and last night run out of the salmon and prawn starters. The waiters are lovely - however, I wonder what goes on in the kitchen! It was a shame because we had all been looking forward to the dinner for weeks and felt let down. My parents are elderly and don't go out much these days. Everyone should be made to feel special and important on such an occasion. We all left feeling that we weren't as important as the other larger party. I want to make it clear that the waiters were lovely and charming and apologised many times.Perhaps you could introduce a system that allows people to place their orders as they book their table online and take a deposit so the kitchen staff can plan in advance.

Firstly, I used to come to the Royal Oak many years ago as a child and was looking forward to enjoying the visit knowing it had been taken over by Vintage Inns. I have been to several Vintage Inns over the years and generally have a good experience. However, my visit to the Royal Oak was very disappointing. There were five of us dining, celebrating my mothers birthday.Three of us ordered the roast dinner and when the Gravy arrived, it was full of oil. I told the staff there was something wrong with the Gravy and they advised they had run out and so used the juices from the chicken. There was no chicken on the menu (we had Roast Turkey). I told my children not to have the Gravy but my wife did and she got sick later that night.I wanted the Steak but was advised by the staff that the steak was poor that day and I should avoid it. So I had the chicken pie instead, which was OK but not amazing. Finally when paying the bill, the staff gave us a code to submit a survey and asked if we could give a 5 star review as it would please the Manager. The venue is lovely but the food standards really let it down for us. I hope it improves.

Highly recommend an evening at The Royal Oak. A French Martini was on the cocktail menu, which is one of my favourite drinks and can never find anywhere. It was made to perfection by the fabulous Danielle! More rounds were needed. The food service by Chrissie and Jon was spectacular, they made us feel welcomed, listened too and were very attentive to our needs, as I have recently had back surgery. The food was delicious, having the seared fillet of seabass with pea and crispy bacon voelutie, spring onion mash and steamed broccoli. It came to the table to the perfect temperature and one of the best seabass fillets I have had in a long time. Complements to the chef (Dave I believe)My partner had the pizza, which he adored, so my homemade pizzas I try to make have to compete with this (thanks) haha.We had lovely crumble for dessert, which delicious and brought back childhood memories. All in all a wonderful experience, we will be again soon! With additional guests.

We've just had a Christmas meal for 12 and it was fabulous. Very generous, delicious portions served exactly when we wanted each course. We pre-booked our choices from the Christmas Menu. The steak and venison pie was very good. Staff were lovely, very friendly and efficient. Such a lovely start to Christmas.
