AVOID AT ALL COSTS. RUDE STAFF AND TERRIBLE FOOD!! The reviews are lies.I went into the red lion as I had seen so many amazing reviews about how fantastic the food and service was. I am under the influence that those reviews could only have been written by the owners friends and family as this was absolutely not the case last night. My friend and I arrived at 6:45pm, we ordered our food and drinks at the same time at 7:15pm - this was the first time the waitress had come over to us so we took the opportunity to order everything then. Our food did not arrive at our table until 8:05pm. But we were the lucky ones, as there were two other tables with families on who had been there before we had even arrived and they were STILL waiting for their food. Unfortunately after the long wait the food was absolutely disgusting! I ordered a burger and chips. My burger was stone cold and burnt (but the plate was hot) which suggests it’s been sat under a hot lamp and my chip were rock solid. My friend had the chicken breast which was also cold, and the vegetables were also rock hard. One of the ladies from one of the two families politely went over to ask the staff where their food was as my friend and I came in before them and why was it that they were still waiting? The staff launched across the bar and started verbally abusing this poor lady shouting “it’s not our fault we only have one chef! What do you want me to do?!? I’ll take it off your bill if you’re that bothered”. The lady walked back to her table and you could see the upset in her face as she just politely asked a question.Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the staff and the food was vile. Would not even feed my dog it.

A hidden gem! Even though it is classed as a casual dining pub, the quality of the food was impressive and the interior reminds of a high-end diner in London. Service was great and staff members were very helpful when it came to deciding what to eat. While we were waiting for our food we had the opportunity to have a walk around the restaurant which has a gallery of pictures depicting the village and the local landscapes. The duck leg ordered for a starter had a very good combination of flavors and herbs. The wine that was recommended to complement the steak was spot-on as well. After dinner we moved into the bar area where we could enjoy a live performance for some Friday night dancing and singing. Definitely would recommend visiting!

Got there on a Thursday which is burger night. I had the chicken burger which was pretty good and they had a nice selection of beer on draft. My friends had the bangers and mash but weren't as pleased with the food. The pub still feels pretty new and somewhat lacks a proper cozy atmosphere. Nonetheless my experience was positive and would come back.

We had a really lovely Sunday Lunch there today. The homemade soup was amazing followed by roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and several veg. Finally homemade apple crumble and real custard. We will be going again soon. Thanks to Vin and Gina for making the pub a place you just love to visit.

The star I gave is a minus one star, after a ten mile hike arrived to find they had decided not to open lunchtimes completely different to the information on they website. Landlord does not deserve the publics trade, I certainly will not be visiting again.

Started off with drinking an Ale. Choice of three. This was excellent. No issues with the quality. Driving do could only have the one.For lunch I ate fish and chips. This was excellent. The batter was light and crisp, the chips were chunky and excellent. A couple of nice sides, mint peas, mayo and tomato sauce. Another diner asked for French fries instead of chunky chips and received these. My partner went for two small dishes, Scotch egg made with a black pudding crust. The yolk was lovely and runny. Her other dish was some lovely prawns, presented in a bowl of sauce with chillies. She was very pleased. The service was pleasant, we were made to feel welcome.

Always a great quality lunch and friendly staff. We have two young children and they have been welcomed and food options provided to suit one with a dairy allergy. A bit more than your usual chain pub experience.

Lovely location, however we went for lunch today - nearly 3 hours for a 3 course meal. No apple sauce. Wrong meals brought out. Fish overcooked and flavourless. Hair found in salad. Chef had to come out as waiter wasn't sure which dish was beef and which was lamb. Bathrooms dirty and dated. Such a shame as could be so nice. Onion rings great though.

I am sorry to say that the pub we visited today bore no resemblance to the one described in these rave reviews. We went in this Saturday lunchtime. There were only four choices on the menu, no sandwiches or paninis or anything unusual to tempt us. We all settled for scampi and chips. The other choices were burger and chips, haloumi and salad and something else, instantly forgettable. They were extremely basic meals that were something you would serve to kids only bigger. There had been no delivery of beers so the two most attractive ones were off. No ambience. The best I can say is that everything was clean and the food was hot.Very disappointing indeed.

Lovely pub, staff and food. Booked here because of Windebank family history. A very nice visit.
