The Book and Record Bar
Lots of new and used records and books. Raritys and collectibles. Also you can get a coffee and I think a beer there. I have in the past anyway. Dr Alex of the Orb sometimes broadcasts a set from there. It's a bit of a hub for WNBC radio.

Lovely shop and lovely owner. I also recommend a better flow of air in the place. All windows always shut and no ventilation at all. I couldn’t stay longer as I wanted so.

Here you're more likely to find a genuine obscurity or the unfamiliar and at a reasonable price. The 'usual' music genres, fair depth of stock (noticeably in Psych & Prog), with a high incidence of 'clean' items. Spacious and informal with a relaxed vibe. Hosts events, radio and guest DJs, serves coffee, sells books and licensed. A top-notch music destination and a hang-out to boot. Definitely worth the schlep, for sure.Revisited 6 years later and not disappointed.Undoubtedly one of London’s finest second-hand vinyl destinations.Owner is knowledgeable and engaging.

Best record shop in London with regular events of the highest calibre. Immensely knowledgeable staff who will always take time to chat to you. Radio station WNBC transmits from the shop a couple of days a week.

The Book and Record Bar
Visited earlier this year and a few times subsequently. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. The selection of records are good, yet curiously expensive. There is no way to listen to records that catch one's eye and the older gentlemen that guddle by the counter are standoffish and quite rude! They simply do not acknowledge their customers when one has a question and I was not greeted upon arrival. This is the sort of service one might expect from an 'upmarket' shop in 'Soho', but not in one's 'local'. This particular establishment feeds into the sterotype of having a cold atmosphere. There is an inexplicably powerful aroma of coffee. For all of the above reasons, I will not be returning and would encourage others to avoid like the PLAGUE.
