British Geological Survey

I learnt more about the earth and geology from a single visit to the museum than I think I did from my high school days. Seeing those items on display brought back memories.This is a great place for knowledge loving family. Both old and young will have fun learning about our planet and solar system. My favourite items were the lava bomb, meteorite and different types of gem stones.The Museum is located in South Kensington, in the same neighbourhood as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Science Museum. All three form the trinity of Museums on that stretch of road. It does get very busy, so I recommend buying ticket online and in advance.There's a diner/Cafe on the ground floor and the food is quite good. A bit pricey, but I guess that pays for the cost of keeping the museum free.

One can find this on the same street of Natural History Museum and V&A hall. Geological enthusiasts would love this place as there are detailed exhibits of rocks and rock formations etc.

The BGS store has a lot of very nice specimens and some geological literature and related items for sale, and I have enjoyed visiting. A more geological/mineralogical store for purchasing crystals, minerals etc which I greatly appreciate.

Really disorganised museum and badly laid out showcases; also very dummed down making it unbearable for adults

The BGS shop inside the Natural History Museum sells really nice jewellery, rocks, fossils, and anything to do with geology. I especially like their earrings - they're reasonably priced, super high quality, always real, and not dyed cheap glass bits (looking at you, museum shop next to it). Also has an excellent selection of maps, and the staff are really nice and helpful.
