Moorhen Trout Fishery

Recently did a fly fishing introduction course here and had a ton of fun. Jim, the instructor, was friendly and helpful, and took loads of time to get me comfortable casting and also catch my first fish! Highly recommended!

I received a fly fishing introduction voucher to use at Moorhen Trout Fishery for my birthday. Although it took some time to get a slot (no lessons at weekends!) my day came and I received a warm welcome from everyone. John was my instructor and was very patient with me! He was very knowledgable and helped me with my casting and pointers for playing a trout which eventually worked very well with my 2 catches! Lesson was for 4 hours spread over lunch time but you can continue fishing until you have caught your 2 fish. Mine were a 3lb and 2.1lb which was fabulous. Definiatly recommend both John and Moorhen Trout Fisheery's

I booked and introduction to fly fishing at Moorhen Trout Fishery in late April 2023. The mail correspondence was excellent - detailed and friendly and set out all I needed to know.My instructor on the day was Jim Wilson. I couldn’t have wished for a better instructor. Jim is very knowledgeable, not only about the technical aspects of fly fishing but also about where to fish, costs etc. Jim was patient, knowledgeable and great company.Jim got me going learning how to cast in different ways. I learned the basics and was able to land a really nice trout, which my wife cooked for our supper the same evening.Although the latter part of the day was a bit wet I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would highly recommend Moorhen Trout Fishery and Jim Wilson to give a first class introduction to a great sport.

My business partners and I spent the day at Moorhen and from the moment Wendy met us in the car park we were made to feel welcome. Throughout the day the team were attentive and Jim our instructor introduced us to Trout fishing excellently guiding us through the ins and out to great effect.It was a really lovely day in a beautiful setting, highly recommended.

I visited the fishery today with my parents as I bought my dad a gift voucher to fish at the lake. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but the lady working there wasn't remotely friendly or welcoming. My dad just wanted to have a little look around before his day fishing and was sternly told not to go near the fishermen, even though he wasn't anywhere near them. The two stars are for the other people fishing we briefly chatted with, who seemed nice. We left within a minute as we were made to feel completely in the way. It's a shame, as I just moved to the area and plan to fish often with my dad, but we'll use the voucher and find somewhere we feel more welcome.

Very nice people run it. Needs to be made bigger...get a digger in amd double the size.Pity about the traffic noise .will definitely go again thank you and has a very good tackle shop.

Outstanding, special and unique two of the nicest people run, this lovely trout lake, from hot coffee to filling in your fish ticket, all the things that make fishing easier.This is a great place to fish, which all taste great.Wendy is a star, and Mark so friendly, both made me feel welcome on all three of my trips.Make a day of it, you will love it.

Terrific Introduction to Fly Fishing day at Moorhen fisheries today. Beautiful location, very friendly hosts and super tuition from Jim Wilson. Starting out can be a bit daunting but the relaxed atmosphere and most of all Jim’s good humoured patience (he needed it!) and friendly encouragement made for a great day. I will certainly be returning!
