Houghton Hillside Cemetery

A gorgeous quiet natural space at the edge of Houghton-le-Spring.A peaceful atmosphere with very little traffic noise, nearby streets have no parking restrictions.Wheelchair access would be problematic in wet weather as access is along an earthen track.

Peaceful area of Houghton, definitely needs looking after again but amazing hidden gem

Found this gem by chance, I've seen it from a busy road at speed but wasn't sure if it was accessible, it is accessible and worth the trouble. Well kept grassed area , a peaceful place to sit if there were seating, a memorial to Houghton miners and the unknown buried there. Lovely stone archway at the entrance . Access for wheel chair users could be problematic in wet conditions as it's not a paved track .
