Public Art - The Clothier
Unlike the previous reviewer I've bothered to find out about this sculpture. The two metal information plates which are visible at the front of it's base helped (see my photos). This sculpture of red marble in the vague shape of a person was unveiled in September 2010. It is by John Atkins - who also made The Clicker" sculpture in May 2007 which is also on New Walk - who used garment template contour patterns as his inspiration for it's style. It was commissioned by the "Friends of New Walk" and paid for by public subscription. It is called "The Clothier" as it is intended to acknowledge Leicester's clothing industry which was a very large employer in the past but it has shrunk to a comparatively small number of businesses nowadays."
