Esso Service Station

Filling up had never been so difficult. I was called in over the speaker system to pay first (I am familiar with this late at night but this was early afternoon) the reason given was that my registration plates couldn't be seen (see pictures taken on the day, they were clearly visible). That wasn't too much of an issue, I tend to pay using the Esso app anyway as it sorts out nectar points automatically. I couldn't find a QR code to scan anywhere, I asked if I could use the app and was told I could, but without QR code anywhere it was not possible. I was then asked how much fuel I wanted, I said 30 litres. I was asked how much I wanted to spend, I responded however much 30 litres would come to. This wasn't accepted and again asked how much, so for the sake of speeding things up at this point I said £40, and remarked I have never known this to be so difficult. The two individuals behind the counter began sniggering and talking in what I believe was Punjabi, I can only assume talking about me. I was then told to stop at £40 when filling up, which most people would agree isn't always guaranteed however much you try. I asked for them to set it so that it automatically finishes filling at £40, a very common feature of fuel pumps nowadays, which was met with further resistance until I insisted it be set as I didn't want to have to waste more time returning inside to pay for a penny or so over £40.I really don't know why they made it such an ordeal, if you can drive to another fuel station, I recommend you do.

Won’t let you fill up unless you pay them first. Unfriendly staff. Shall not use again.

157p a litre diesel advertised. Got to pump 173p a litre! Charlatans.
