After viewing a Small Cars Direct Autotrader advert and YouTube video for a 2015 registered Fiat Panda Cross, I emailed Alex Bradley regarding some recent issues that had caused the car to fail an MOT.Alex replied within an hour, and explained that new front suspension arms had been fitted. DVSA online records showed that the car had subsequently passed an MOT.I paid Alex Bradley a £500 reservation fee so I could test drive the car 6 days later with a view to purchasing it.However, just a few hours later I discovered quite by chance from a Google search that the car was formerly used as a blue light First Responder emergency service vehicle by the ambulance service. An image showed the car fully kitted out with roof-bar blue lights, reflective decals covering the bodywork and NHS branding.In view of this new information that had unexpectedly come to light, I emailed Alex Bradley immediately, cancelling my request to view and test drive the car, and politely requesting a refund of the £500 holding deposit I had paid him by bank transfer just 7 hours earlier.I received no response.I emailed Alex Bradley again early this morning, stating that his advertising of the vehicle with Autotrader, eBay and on his company website was misleading, as was the video description of the vehicle by his colleague Jon.I explained that since the advertisement omitted to mention the former blue light fleet use as a ‘material fact’, it was in breach of the Advertising Standards Authority rules for the advertising of ex-fleet vehicles:“Where ex-fleet vehicles may have been driven by multiple users, they might have been subjected to more ‘wear and tear’ than privately owned vehicles. As such, this information is likely to affect a consumer’s decision to purchase the vehicle and should be included in an ad.”I repeated my request for a refund of my £500 reservation fee, by close of business today.Ignoring my comments about his omission of the ‘material fact’ from his advertising regarding the car’s former use as a blue light fleet vehicle with the ambulance service, Alex replied, offering to refund £400 as a gesture of goodwill, retaining £100 to cover the costs of re-advertising the car.The Autotrader advert has remained live throughout, so no re-advertising costs will be incurred!I have now received a £400 refund to my bank account, leaving me ‘scammed’ out of £100.

I picked up my car from Alex last Friday and have barely left it since - I love it! I contacted him via WhatsApp in the early hours of the Thursday morning, had a response instantly, looked at the car in the afternoon, did the deal including part exchanging my old car, and walked away with my new motor on the Friday. We bought a small convertibale car from Alex. It is in great condition and we are very happy with our purchase. The video and photos were a great starting point. The car didn't have any major problems and all small defects like the tear on the gear stick (to which we bought a replacement on Amazon) were pointed out and Alex was patient at every stage, answering all our questions and waiting for us to make a final decision.
