Society Newport

Went here for a few cocktails with friends. We were well greeted at the door and given a choice of any table as it was quiet. We ordered a few passionfruit martinis and Long Island teas. One friend wasn’t drinking, however, the waitress was very judgemental of this, responding ‘are you feeling ok’ to my friends order of lemonade.When the passionfruit martinis arrived, they looked nothing like the picture, with a completely different colour and no classic foam or half passionfruit as you’d expect. Instead we received a drink that tasted like juice, with a faint hint of artificial passionfruit. The glass was also full of ice. I understand the price point of the cocktails (£6 for 1 or £10 for 2) but the quality should be better. Another cocktail bar down the road offers cocktails at the same price that are shaken and made with quality ingredients as expected. My glass had a large chip and crack in it that was easily noticeable when the glass was empty. I noticed it when I almost cut my lip whilst drinking. The Long Island teas were a rum and Coke, so very disappointing.Overall, my experience at Society has not been great and I certainly won’t be in a hurry to return for below average cocktails and judgemental staff.

Visited the Society , by accident, on Friday 28 May 2021 as I was wondering when it was opening. I stood in front of the smoked glass double doors and they opened revealing a busy open bar room. Evidently the Society had just opened that day ! The Society has one simple hanging circular sign above the door but no other indication of it being open.The bar has been developed in the old lower market hall and so it is quite spacious . The bar runs down the left hand side of the building . It has a number of beer and cider taps but does not yet stock any real ale although the owner is planning on stocking a real ale.

Very welcoming and a fabulous choice of well kept real ales, visited with our local Camra group, Very impressed.

Fab decor, good drinks range. Only comment would be is some staff not clued up massively on range of drinks available. But, very polite, happy N super atmosphere. We went mid week evening and had a chilled out vibe.

Great place, I hope it gets more popular. Has the feeling of an old style wine bar with a modern twist. Go and try it. Great atmosphere and great service.

Awesome range of beers and other drinks. Great atmosphere and decor, particularly interesting building. Staff are brilliant too!

Wouldn’t leave the one star but the site doesn’t allow zero. Warm and watery beer and one member of staff doing her best. When we mentioned we couldn’t drink the beer she said ok!

The place looks amazing. The concept is really good. Our host was fantastic... only concern is that the choice of beer is a bit poor. Only one IPA and no other craft beer or ales but loads of lager... expresso Martini was fantastic though... could do with some snacks and maybe a happy hour to lure the locals Sunday to Thursday. The concept is good... just needs fine tuning
