The past 12 months have presented numerous challenges for me as the owner of a Multidisciplinary Health Clinic – not only in the care we offer for our clients, but also looking after ourselves as Frontline Healthcare Practitioners during difficult times.Nicola Brough has helped me supplement my Physiotherapy care to a client with Long-COVID over the past few months with her Cranio-Sacral Therapy. The client had contracted COVID early in the pandemic when there was little to no support in the community for people suffering from the fatigue and pain symptoms many people are left with. Although Physiotherapy input was helping, we had reached a plateau and that is when I got Nicola involved in the care plan.Nicola took time to get to know the client and tailored her treatment to suit the client’s individual needs. Within 2 months the difference was amazing – alongside the Physiotherapy treatment the client is making real progress to the point where we are looking at getting her swimming again by the summer – whereas she was struggling to leave the house at all at Christmas. Nicola and I have had regular check ins to maximise our joint treatment approach and not only do the results speak for themselves but this has enhanced the service I offer to my clients. Many people are unaware of my own health problems – I live with chronic pain every day due injuries to my spine and right foot that were mismanaged when I was a teenager. I have had several surgeries over the years, including one that left me with a spinal fluid leak on the brain. Although I manage my symptoms well, the stresses and strains of running a business and the energy I put into my own client care has cumulated to leave me with more and more debilitating Migraines.Nicola has been treating me for the past few months – originally my goal was better control of my stress, migraines and general energy levels – which we are achieving. However, I did not expect for her to be able to affect the pain in my foot in the way she has. It is not gone completely by any means (I am in a job where I am on my feet most days) but the effect on my daily life has greatly reduced.Nicola’s treatment approach is very different to my own, cannot always be explained by Science but works in tandem well. When you are working with people and their bodies nothing is beyond the realms of possibility – and you never know the effect you can have on someone.I would, and do, recommend Nicola’s Craniosacral Therapy alongside the other services her team offer at Torus Health and Wellbeing.Carys Roberts, Physiotherapist & Clinical Director
