Student Roost - Central Place

One star is too much, this company does not care about students in the slightest! All they want is your money, I would not recommend living here at all. The rooms are not what the pictures look like, nor are the kitchens. There is barely enough room for our whole flat to socialise (when we were all there). When we first arrived it was clear the building had NOT been cleaned at all, with food all up the walls, rubbish in the lift and construction dust everywhere! The courtyard is just some concrete with a single bench. The heaters also did not work properly, and we had to go to the kitchen each time to reset the heaters to get them to work.I was not able to use my room when covid started due to health problems and being vulnerable. I also had no face-to-face teaching however, they still made me pay for the room that I did not enter or have a key to but health was not a good enough issue, and they just wanted the money so they made me still pay for the room. The university and government told us not to travel to not spread covid however they did not care and made me pay for the room I did not even have a key to. They made me pay nearly £2000 for a room I had no access to.Reading some other reviews, I could see that I was not the only student with this issue, and they made many students pay for rooms they were not using. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! It is better to spend the same amount of money somewhere else or where it is a bit more expensive than have to deal with this company.

I am writing this review following the backlash from staff that my flatmate received for leaving a similar review. I’m open to answer any questions that reception may have of me.My advice to anyone considering living here - DON’T! Or at least, read similar reviews below too, so you get a general idea of what you’re dealing with.I won’t talk for long, got very little good to say. Despite its proximity to central campus, don’t let it fool you, that’s their only selling point for this location. Security and night staff are completely useless.Similar reviews explain that security staff sit around smoking all night and I can second this. Not very reassuring if you ever get into any danger.I won’t mention the appalling, nightmarish check in we received (I wish I could upload photos!), where the entire property was soiled, appliances broken and inexplicably filthy - uninhabitable. Despite this being rectified (albeit slowly) I would never go through that ordeal again. I wouldn’t live here again if they paid me.As mentioned above, if reception or security staff happen to be reading this, feel free to ask me any questions next time I come to collect my parcels.

Silverfish in bathroom no cleaners for kitchen and was moved into room that wasn’t cleaned at all. I can’t even have a shower or go toilet. There was poo left in the toilet and the room is filthy. Don’t bother coming here

I'll start off by saying the single star in this review goes to the maintenance staff. Although the apartment's issues are persistent, the maintenance staff Freddy and Simon are decent guys.That said, Apartment 1, Mary Page House is a hell hole. Since we moved into our two bedroom flat on September 17th it has been issue after issue. I am currently writing this review in a freezing room after the heating system has been fixed" no less than 3 times

I have not been in the property since October due to Covid-19, yet Student Roost have told me several times to return to the property despite the University telling me to stay at home just so they don't have to provide us with a refund. AVOID AT ALL COST!

Yeah I wouldn’t recommend, they’re possibly the worst organisation for student accommodation. I moved out of my Central Place accommodation in Sheffield on the 3rd September and still haven’t received my £250 deposit refund. I was told the 15th September then the 30th. Then the 15th October again. Still nothing. Disgusting. In a cost of living crisis they couldn’t care less about you.

location is great but the experience has been awful. my shower wasn’t working properly and i raised this issue within one or two days of moving in on 9/09 and it was fixed only a few days ago. for a month i had to shower by filling a bowl with warm water from the tap and using that to clean myself. i contacted the team time and time again both in person and email and my mother also emailed a few times on my behalf and yet the issue was only resolved a month after it was brought up. i don’t even need to mention further just how unjust this was to pay for a room that didn’t even have a working shower or heating for a month. the boiler was fixed a few weeks after we raised it up to the team and although we’re grateful someone came to us to fix it, the person who did then left a mess on the counters and he used my dish sponge and dish rag to poorly wipe the counters so leaving a bigger mess spread around the counter which we had to clean ourselves properly after he left. i sincerely don’t feel like the team care about me or how i’m finding it here and it’s happened a few times that i had to go to reception but it was locked because the overnight team was outside smoking. i understand the need for a break but surely at least one person should be doing their job at all times.

Very warming atmosphere with helpful and cheerful staff. Good location to get around central sheffield and to the local universities.

terrible security, zero maintenance and looks nothing like online photos!!! only plus is that it’s close to the Uni of Sheff campus. reception staff don’t seem to care a whole lot about you and the security team sit around chatting/ smoking all night. the floors/ ceilings are so thin you can hear every shuffle of your upstairs and downstairs neighbours. i haven’t slept more than 4 hours a single night in the 3 weeks I’ve lived here. when we arrive the house was a landfill site and almost all the appliances were broken. wouldn’t live here again if they paid me
