I have just recently encountered this company ripping me off. I needed a plumber as my trap underneath the sink was spilling over with water. He arrived, seemed very professional, looked at my p trap told me the seal had gone and before he even looked in his van told me he hasn't got one and that I needed a new trap. He fitted my new trap in literally 2 minutes and charged me £212.69 including call out which was £42. The trap cost only £6 and took him 2 minutes to fit. I was disgusted. Paid him as I needed my washing machine up and running. Phoned the company and complained and they assured me they have taken my case to customer relations. Lo and behold no response as of yet. It's disgusting how they just rip their customers off, please please please don't use use this company for anything. Rest assured I will complain to them until I at least get some money back for a 2 minute job.

Should have read the other reviews first! I requested a quote to fit a bathroom tap I had purchased and duly stumped up the 42 quid call out charge, thinking the job wouldn't be much more than that. When the engineer eventually arrived (5:30pm) he quoted me £175! And also said he would have to come back another day to do it. When I said I thought it would have been about £50 he said they were an expensive company and other plumbers wouldn't do it for less than £80. So the policy must be think of a reasonable quote and double it... I bought a few cheap tools off Amazon and did it myself - turned out it wasn't that difficult.

I first rang on Monday morning to ask for a callout to assist with a leaking stopcock, I was advised they'd try and get someone to me that afternoon, otherwise it'd be the next day, so I paid the callout fee and waited. I was called back on Monday afternoon to inform me that the engineer was caught on a job and they'd get to me on Tuesday - totally fair enough and acceptable.Tuesday passes and I hear nothing, I called after I finished work but the head office was closed. On Wednesday morning I'm called back due to the missed call from the previous evening and was advised that I am on the job list to be seen that afternoon. Slightly frustrating, but at least it's getting sorted. Later that afternoon I'm called to say that, once again, the engineer will not be able to attend, and will have to come on Thursday. On Thursday morning I called to confirm I was on the list to be seen, and was again advised I was on the list for that afternoon (a pattern is emerging...). Sure enough, that afternoon I'm called to advise that the engineer will not be attending and I was being shifted to Friday, and that they'd call me to update me in the morning. At 11.00 this (Friday) morning, nobody had contacted me as promised so I called to confirm that today would be the day my, still leaking, stopcock would be seen to and was advised that I'm on the list for the afternoon. Having heard that several times before, I pressed for my exact position on that list, because surely having been on the job list for 'this afternoon' for a full working week, I must be near the top?I wasn't, the person on the phone honestly admitted he didn't think anyone would realistically see me today and offered me a refund.I wish they could have been more up front in the first instance and said that they realistically wouldn't get to me this week, rather than taking my money and making false assurances.

Do not use this company, they charge £42 call out. They did not tell me they do no work for that, and do not explain this on the phone. They charge £175 an hour to do work which is totally exorbitant. They masquerade as a local company but are not. I want a refund for my £42. I am concerned that l even let them into my house considering the dishonesty of their business. Avoid at all costs.

Took money off my partner and guaranteed service that day.We have two very young children in the house and no heating so seemed like a good idea to pay up front for a guarantee.Only after chasing them multiple times in the afternoon where we told he wouldn't be coming today and see you Monday. No apologies. Two young kids in freezing house all weekend no heating. We don't have a receipt for payment so who knows if we will actually get refund. After reading the reviews and our experience it's very clear this company are rip off merchants.READ THE REVIEWS !!! don't book the first thing that pops up. These people will take your money happily. They won't provide what you pay for.

Do not use. I rang and cancelled the visit due to high costs, booked another company. They still turned up unfortunately I let them in thinking it was the other company I booked. The guy wasn’t sure he could fix it but charging £180 to try! Plus £42 call out and if he need to come back with a plumber additional circa £500.Still got charged the call out despite me cancelling and there mistake for not actually stopping the visit.Absolute rip off. My neighbour took a look and fixed for free in 5 mins.

Greedy and unhelpful. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Person on the other end of the phone didn't have a clue. Told me I would have to speak to a plumber or fitter and that would cost me £42 for call out. All in all had to pay over £240 to have a new tap fitted.. not including the price of the tap. Tap is wholly unsuitable as I wasn't advised on which tap to purchase, so will need to be changed again. Not by this company though.

Wish I had seen these reviews before I booked them. I have no problem with the call out fee of £42. I knew the fault code of my boiler and therefore the part that would be needed. Told them to ensure the engineer had it on his van. He came out and looked at the boiler and then quoted me £120 for the part which he didn’t have, and would have to get. And also…nearly £700 to install the part!! I work in a related industry so I understand the charges of engineers but this shocked me! There is no way I could justify that kind of charge, for what was probably half an hour install. So I declined, and was then charged £210 for the 30 minutes he was here looking at the fault! So I just spent over £250, for nothing! I spoke to another engineer who told me the part was less than £30 and couldn’t believe how much this guy charged me and tried to charge me. Absolute hi-way robbery. Avoid at all costs.

I turned to M.J.Harris because I had several jobs that needed to be done by a variety of tradespeople. I started with a plumber and a 'sparks' (£42 each call-out paid over the phone) and, to my surprise, was told they would be with me that day. From then on it was a debacle! Within a week I'd had four reschedulings 'for tomorrow', waited in for for six days (once unable to accompany my wife to a hospital appointment), had a late Friday evening visit from a plumber who left us with one tap replaced, another tap fitted but wobbling, and NO HOT WATER ANYWHERE IN THE HOUSE for THREE DAYS (a weekend and Monday). My wife and I are both well over 65.The same plumber was sent back to fix the problems on the Monday - which he did. Though restoring cold water to the bathroom basin was due to MY suggestion that the problem might be the isolation valve and NOT a problem 'under the floor' - heaven knows what that might have cost! As it was, no further charge was made for this visit. So then, just the call-out of £42 and the original fee of £356.24 (after OAP discount!) for what should have been a two hour job. Needless to say, the 'sparks' (due today) has been 'delayed' until tomorrow. I have cancelled his visit and expect a £42 refund.I have also suggested that Harris' might like to consider a little compensation for their terrible service and the inconvenience it caused. I won't hold my breath!PS: I've just read Harris' response to the above and, just like all their replies to all of our complaints, found their robotic excuses vacuous, insincere, patronising and pointless. Their 'head office' (do they really have a complaints 'department'?) has low standards, fewer morals and NO social conscience.

Feeling incredibly upset after being charged £199.50 for a 5 minute job unblocking my elderly mums toilet. And I mean literally 5 minutes! By my calculations that works out to be £2,394 per hour! Surely the price of a job should reflect the work that is carried out? No products were used, just a rod which was pushed down the toilet to release the blockage! What’s more you’ll try and justify this price by naming every overhead and staff member you have on your books. (Yes I’ve seen the responses given to the mountain of negative reviews.) Just a shame I’m reading these reviews now and not yesterday before I called you. Your approach to pricing jobs needs to be seriously adjusted. It seems to be a common theme on these reviews that people are feeling ripped off when it comes to receiving your services. We can’t all be wrong!
