GAS AND ELEC

I instructed Gas and Elec to complete a gas safety certificate and EICR for my rental property. As a young couple, we relied on their experience and expertise as a local company. The person who attended our home, (who was utterly rude), carried out the gas safety and informed us of 2 things we needed to fix. We did so and a certificate was produced. I am happy to pay for this service.He then moved to the EICR. Essentially, we were told that our fuse box needed replacing (from plastic to metal) for the EICR to be signed off. He said to us that, for £450, he could replace the fuse box and would therefore sign off the EICR for 5 years. Feeling as though I was held over a barrel, we agreed as we had paid for the EICR and he said that he would not allow anyone else to replace the fuse box, it had to be him. So, as we were already £200 down, we agreed for him to attend on 4 Feb. The purpose was to replace the fuse box and that would allow him to provide us with the EICR required (and that we had paid for).4 Feb arrives and the electrician did not. We called Gas & Elec who said that he was off sick and we should have been told. Gas & Elec said that they would call us back - which they did not. After repeated calls to find out when the electrician would come back, we never received an answer.Today, when asked for our money back due to an absolute lack of response (or the finished job), we were told that the electrician is self employed and not part of Gas & Elec so they could not help us. Yet, the electrician has not used his name on the gas safety certificate, instead using Gas & Elec as the name, so this seems incorrect.We were then told that we had agreed the replacement fuse box with the electrician privately - this is not the case.
