Marcus Campbell Art Books

A gem! Located opposite the Tate Modern, this shop stocks all kinds of art, sculpture, photography books, prints, posters and uncategorisable oddities too. I should say I'm a bit wary of going into shops during the pandemic as I consider myself vulnerable, but I can't resist a bookshop, and happily the staff do an superb job of making browsers feel safe in the current pandemic. It's clean and spacious. There are free gloves supplied and hand gel. Since discovering the place some months ago I've been back twice. The gentleman there is always super helpful and helped me find two books I'd been looking for, and by chance I found several small items in their bargain second-hand book barrows, which stock more miscellaneous subjects. My regret is that I didn't know about this shop sooner! So yes... a very happy customer here.

An excellent selection of artist books, art writing, monographs & exhibition catalogues at great prices, especially good if you're looking to get a hold of auction catalogues too. Friendly & helpful staff, a definite highlight of visiting London.

After a visit to Tate Modern this is a great place to look for old gems and recent highlights at a good price. The bookmakers a wide range of ages mainly from the late 80s to present The interesting layout draws attention to British artists and there is an extensive section of discounted books including very good quality copies. Perhaps there could be more good catalogues from the last 5 years.

The staff create an uncomfortable atmosphere. They sit around talking and are pretty useless. When they do serve you they have no manners. Overall there is a very elitist and condescending vibe. I do not recommend this shop!

Cool bargains to be found! Helpful staff too. Perfect place to browse after or before visiting the Tate (across the road). Not all the items stocked there are necessarily art books either. Some curiosities can be discovered too. The shop's secondhand section seems to be the wooden troughs at the front window, which are a great source of inspirational material if you're creative. There are vintage journals, rare magazines, illustrated catalogues and mono-graphs.

One of my favourite bookshops in London. Love the £10, £5 and £2 sections. If you love history of art, you are going to love it here very much.

Good selection of books butknow what you want before you go in so you dont have to ask the staff a question. I have never felt someone look so annoyed with a simple “Do you have this artist book” question. And beyond the look to respond with something along the lines of “Is it worth my time to look?” as a verbal response is actually embarrassing

Went in to look at photography books after a visit to the Tate. A guy is standing there looking at me and my partneras as we walk in. awkward, is he a customer and we breached the 2 people at a time request... no hello... is he from the shop... no must be a customer as no hello and he keeps staring at us... then he speaks... use the gel and gloves... no please.. OK no problem i use the gel and wait till my hands dry, gloves rip as I try to carefully put them on.. guy is still looking at me... have I got food on my front? Give up on the gloves as my hands arw sticky from the gel and leave. Really strange welcome to the shop...

This is probably the best known art bookshop in London. You can find lots of stuff for different pockets, from 10/15£ second hand books to more expensive catalogues (40£ and beyond) to the Paolozzi rarities (I didn't dare to ask for the price). Helpful staff. You could spend the day there.
