I want to give zero stars - Unreliable, disorganised, rude, and dishonest. You're wasting your time if you want to consign/sell with them!In September 2021, the valuer (Michael Perry) refused to provide estimates upon arrival at the flat because my 'room was too small' and told me to email images instead - said I should get estimates in a couple of weeks but then ignored all my emails and calls afterwards. I waited for over a month in vain, he never responded or acknowledged my efforts to make contact. Not until I emailed in late October to say I'd leave a bad review, Mr Perry unsurprisingly responded within a day with a bunch of lies and excuses. He had the audacity to tell me to 'don't hesitate to contact' and let Capes Dunn know if I wanted estimates...Frankly, I expected an email with all the valuations since they claimed they received the images back in September. Not an email explaining they 'could' give estimates and claiming they actually need the physical items in the saleroom to do the estimates. Here's the full story, if you want to know more. It's my honest and impartial, personal experience:I contacted the auction house in late August to do a free valuation at my home. After calling many times to get an appointment, it was finally scheduled in mid-September (about two weeks later) but the valuer did not provide any indication of time. Just 'any time after 2pm' on the day. I called at 1.45pm as they had not rung or texted to confirm arrival. They said they would be here at 2pm, but were late and refused to value the items as there was too much, and said my room was too small.Instead, Michael Perry spent 30mins explaining or rather 'mansplaining' why my framed antique prints weren't popular to buyers. He could have estimated several things that weren't the framed prints in that time. Upon leaving, Mr Perry said he could provide estimates if I took images of all the items and grouped them in recommended lots. Lot estimates would be provided in a couple of weeks when his assistant is back from holiday. I spent hours taking the photos and sent them a few days later via WeTransfer. To make matters worse, nobody acknowledged my emails. I resent the images of my items several times as the link kept expiring as nobody at Capes Dunn responded. After no response for a week, I tried calling the office number. The receptionist said they will look into it.I still didn't get a response/update via email the following week so I called again and they said they had downloaded the images. By mid-October, Mr Perry still hadn't responded, but I was 'reassured' over the phone that he was still looking at them. It's mid-November and not a single estimate or apology.

Nice and relaxed auction. Staff are great, friendly and helpful. In an industrial/office unit, a bit tired and rough around the edges but does the job. Limited parking.

After tracking down an artist whose work I wanted to buy I found Capes Dunn. They always kept me informed when works were coming up at their Northern Art Sale. Helpful with directions, loading and deliveries, nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks to Dale, Pamela and Sharon.
