Went during school hols (October) but it was closed. Cafe still open though and lower level grounds so still plenty to see

If you like tudor history this is a great place to visit. It's free to enter, even if the keep is closed you can still gain access to the outer yard and cafe etc. Some fantastic views across the solent towards the Isle of Wight. Sadly ongoing works on the sea defences prevented direct access to the beach.

Historic fortification on Southsea seafront. Free entry so can't really fault it. Enough interpretation panels to inform about the history. I'd allow about an hour to have a deep delve around. Next to the D day museum. Obviously excellent views of the Solent and three of the Palmerston forts (Spitbank, Horse Sands and No Man's Land).

Southsea Castle is free of charge between April and October each year. There are great views from the top of the castle as well as historical items on display in various parts of the building. There is a small cafe/restaurant and a gift shop within the grounds.

Fabulous small defensive castle on Southsea sea front, commissioned by Henry VIII. Superb views to the Isle of Wight and across to the Portsmouth skyline. Delicious food available in the ground floor cafe, which also has courtyard seating. Small gift shop and a video of the history. Well worth a visit.

After many visits to Portsmouth, I finally got to look around Southsea castle. Great historical significance over looking the Solent. Lots of information boards in each room. Outer walls to explore. There is a cafe, toilets and a gift shop located in the castle. Entry is free, so definitely worth a visit.

Interesting castle that's free to visit, in a great location overlooking the Solent. Walking around the walls there are great views of the Solent forts and across to the Isle of Wight.Inside there's an exhibition charting the castle's history from the Tudor period, including lots of information and some historic artefacts. There's a great café in the courtyard serving refreshments and hot food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The castle is open from 10:00 to 17:00, Tuesday to Sunday between April and October. The courtyard area is dog friendly.

Very historic building and worth a visit if you're down on the Southsea promenade. There is a courtyard which is open all year, and there are extra shops and activities in the summer months. Built by Henry VIII in the 1500s. Mainly original still. Excellent, easy to access place if you're interested in history.
