Swiss Glockenspiel
One of the interesting minor attractions found at Leicester Square is the Swiss glockenspiel (clock with bells) that was given to London in 1985 by Switzerland and Liechtenstein as a symbol of the centuries friendship between the nations. The clock chimes numerous times each day, producing a nice melody and you can watch the figures stop the clock structure turning round while the small bells chime away. Its an interesting and pleasant experience if you are passing through the area and happen to be around when the glockenspiel is in action. Otherwise, just have a look, take a picture and move on to see the rest of Leicester Square.

I think this is London's greatest tourist attraction. The bells have a beautiful sound and are not recorded bells. I love those 11 figures!

Swiss Glockenspiel
Didn’t ring at all at 3pm on a Thursday and we had walked all the way across town specifically to hear it. Too bad :(

Swiss Glockenspiel
We happened to walk by when the chimes and bells were ringing. It was interesting to see. My wife noticed that when the bells started ringing police officers appeared seemingly out of nowhere for the event. When the bells stopped ringing, the police officers dispersed. It was interesting. Not sure why they did that.

Absolutely beautiful monument, worth visiting! The bells are not functional anymore however so the music is a recording.

Swiss Glockenspiel
Swiss Glockenspiel is located in a bustle location in the very heart of London, near Piccadilly. Very interesting installation art like in Alps/Bavarian towns and villages...

Swiss Glockenspiel
It was interesting. Located in the Leicester Square area, in the lane between the M&M's and LEGO store.

Standing prominently at the entrance to Leicester Square is this clock, the Swiss Glockenspiel. Next to the clock itself is another totem columns displaying the emblems of the 22 Swiss cantons.Every hour, on the hour, the clock will chime, the bells ringing and the figures would move around the clock. Fun thing to watch. The caricature artists often sit here waiting for customers too.

London is full of pleasant surprises and I happened to visit this place at 5pm when the clock started playing a wonderful music. It happens every hour so don’t miss the opportunity if you are at Leister Square.
