St Mary's Bike Hire

So pleased I made the decision to hire an Ebike and make the most of my day by exploring St Mary’s. Highly recommended.

St. Mary's bike hire was absolutely fantastic! I went to the Isles of Scilly with my parents (who are both in and around 70!). We wanted to explore St. Mary's and as we didn't have access to a car we decided to try electric bikes. None of us use bicycles regularly and we have never used bikes on a holiday but we thought we would give E-Bikes a go and wow, they were great. St. Mary's is a hilly island and no-way could we have cycled up those hills without a little extra help!The bikes were perfect for us - the right size for each of us and the owner and his son were very clear on giving us instructions on how to use the electric part of the bike. The bikes were very clean and had been disinfected (we hired them just as the Scillies were reopening after lockdown). We also had helmets which fitted us perfectly.The owner was really friendly and polite and local to St Mary's so he gave us lots of hints on where we should go and what we should see.It was such a fantastic experience and a great way to see the delightful island. I would definitely recommend.Great service and value for money!

Can't fault this service. An excellent way to see St Mary's and burn some of those calories too. Bikes quite new and perfectly serviceable and hire costs very reasonable.Can fault the local council for very poor footpath/bridleway signage. Many paths impassable being overgrown with gorse and briars. Best policy, if there is a private sign, don't go there. If no private sign go down it!

Was given an electric bike which during hire had an obvious fault and kept turning itself off. Got back to hire shop and owner was insistent that we’d turned it off mid ride. Not true. We have electric bikes at home and know how they work. It was clearly a fault and owner was just being aggressively defensive. In my opinion, avoid.

The bikes we were given were not in good condition. Mine had almost no grip left on the tyres while my partner's bike brakes were dangerously bad, as well as having very temperamental gears. On the plus side, it's very convenient with options to leave bikes at the airport instead of returning to the hire shop.

Decent e-mountain bikes hired, fun trip round the island however customer service of the hire shop was poor. Abrupt manners of the staff surprising, and shutting promptly at 5pm during peak season is absolutely astounding.

Ordered bikes and elec wheelchair months ago. Offerd twice a deposit but ower rejected offer. Went to confirm booking 2 days before use and owner said he's booked it out to someone else! So my mother in law of 80 now can't see the island.We booked months in advance and offered deposit! He obviously doesn't care about gentleman's agreement".Last year we hired bikes. Nothing but issues with gears and brakes. Luckily I'm a mechanic and sorted while on ride out but the rear mech springs are so worn the chain goes slack. Poorly maintained by monkeys.When we returned them he dismissed my claims!Shame there's no alternative.Next time we are bringing own as its only £14 each way on ferry !"

We visit the Scilly Isles yearly and for the past 4 years have hired bikes for our family from here as a treat before we catch the boat back to the mainland. In the past two years the owner has changed and he provides an excellent service with well maintained bikes. Recently they have moved back to the old location making them closer to town (google maps is correct). They have a selection of mountain bikes and hybrids which I think are all Giant/Liv. Some are brand new ( I saw the boxes outside). I recommend the new hybrids as they're nice and light! They also have bike trailers and tag alongs which we have also used. Helmets are also available and included in the price. Pick up a free map there and explore the island!

We hired a couple of hybrid bikes with a child seat and had a wonderful day touring the island. St Mary's is a lovely place to see by bike. Very friendly and flexible hire service. Also great for getting a pushchair for little ones.

Complete rip off - better worth going thru the trouble of bringing your own bike. I hired an electric bike for 3 days for a total of £82 when the day rate was £19…go figure. The gear kept jumping and had to get back twice to get help. I’m suspicious as to why there are no other bike hire shop on the island.
