Whitshaws Builders have been fantastic to work with and we couldn’t be more pleased with the end result. If you can book them – even if you have to delay your project, then my advice is to do get a date in their schedule; you’ll live with your build far longer than any delay in starting, so getting the right building firm is a must.From day one we knew we wanted Whitshaws. It was as clear as that. James (co-director) met with us to discuss our two story contemporary extension. Right from the start it was apparent James loved what he does and can see the realisation of architects plans very clearly. He listened actively, asked great questions and ultimately came back with a clear, itemised costing of our project against what we had requested.Once selected Whitshaws operate with a contract where the price you pay is the price they quote. Indeed that was the case with our project, other than additions we requested. We felt we had a handle on the finance side of things right from the start and it was clear that James and Ryan (the other co-director) want to ensure there are no surprises further down the line.We were given a date to begin and a date to complete the project. Both dates were met. With Whitshaws our experience was on time, on budget and delivered to exceed our expectations.We lived on site whilst our building work was being completed. This means that the contractors who do the hard work effectively live with you for the duration of the build. We hadn’t thought about this at all, but the guys who came on site were great. Always on time, always courteous, no swearing, proud of their work – and rightly so. These lads get on the job and take enormous pride in their work. And they also drink tea. Lots and lots of tea!To the ground workers, the bricklayers, the joiners, the roofers, the plasterers, the glazing company, the plumbers, the electricians & renderers and the team behind the scenes I thank you very much for the hard work and attention to detail. And to Ryan and James I’ve only admiration that you have created such an awesome company and collected together so many talented craftsmen to bring our project to reality.Reading this back I realise that it sounds too good to be true. But there is not a word out of place. If you want a job doing properly, and know busy builders are worth waiting for, then I firmly believe you couldn’t appoint a better contractor than Whitshaws.

We have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Whitshaw Builders, who we used in conjunction with Peak Architects to build a contemporary extension to our 1850s vicarage. They started on the due date, finished two weeks ahead of schedule - despite being hit by dreadful winter weather - and worked exactly to their pre-prepared and meticulously itemised budget. Their level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding - everyone involved in the project clearly took pride in completing their work to the highest standard - and we now have a stunning room which is a pleasure to be in. James Shaw was in constant touch with us, the suppliers and the architect throughout, and he project-managed extremely efficiently and with good humour; his team were all similarly helpful, thoughtful and professional. They are by far the best builders we have ever worked with - James and Ryan (Whittaker) should really be running nationwide masterclasses on how building-work and project-management should be done - and we'd like to thank them and everyone involved in the project for making it look so easy.

We have recently moved in to our new home, managed and built by the team at Whitshaw builders. We are absolutely delighted with the result and the quality of the work. From start to finish our house took 6 months to build and we even moved in earlier than initially planned. Gareth was always happy to help and answer any questions we had regarding the build. Whitshaw Builders were recommended to us by Transform Architects, the company responsible for the design of our Cinema room/Gym project.From the outset, the costs were all clearly documented and agreed and there were no hidden extras at the end of the build. Although James was our initial point of contact, the project was managed by Carl. He worked with us to ensure that we were happy on a day to day basis, addressing and resolving any issues that arose. His attention to detail was excellent and this ensured we got a quality finish.We would highly recommend this company and would use them again.

Whitshaw have recently completed a 12 month project to carry out a full renovation of our 1920's house and addition of a number of extensions. James, Ryan and Gareth managed the different areas of the project and from day one have been professional, very helpful, always available and provided an excellent customer experience.They provided regular project plan updates, detailed costings and monthly valuations, all of which were very clear and transparent to understand for a 'non builder'.They added lots of value by considering different build options, changes or materials to ensure we achieved the best quality finish at the most cost effective price.All the teams involved provided an excellent service of the highest quality, were very professional and really worked to ensure we, the customer, got exactly what we wanted and nothing was too much trouble for them.The end result is a beautiful and unique, high quality home which works perfectly for our family, achieved with very little stress (even during a global pandemic!) and we would highly recommend them.

Whitshaw builders managed and delivered the construction of our two storey extension. From the very beginning we were impressed with their professionalism, regular and honest communication and excellent project management. Whitshaws are committed to delivering a high quality service as evidenced by the people they put on the job (plumbers, electricians, tilers, joiners etc etc) who were excellent at what they did, committed and helpful! Whitshaws put the customer first – they were responsive to any questions and concerns we had, consulted with us throughout the process and offered pragmatic solutions and alternatives whenever we were unsure . We are absolutely delighted with the end result and have received no end of compliments on our property. We cannot recommend Whitshaws enough!

I requested a quote about 2 months ago. When I first called them to inquire, I was advised that they are quite busy and will be at least 2 weeks before I get a quote and maybe it’s worth going elsewhere. I said fair enough, I can wait a while, thanked him for his honesty and let 2 weeks go by. Then I called again to ask when could I expect the quote and was told (by the same person) that they can’t estimate how long it will take for me to obtain a quote, call us again next week. I guess they don’t adhere to SLAs here, lucky them! Called again the next week only to be told the same thing and to go elsewhere. I decided to take his advice.

Whitshaw's have just completed building our dream home for us. I can't agree more with the comments written by other customers. They have been totally professional in every way and have accommodated our wishes and changes. The finish is superbly completed with every attention to detail. The whole team have been fabulous to work with in every respect. The quality is second to none. I cannot thank James, Ryan and all the team enough. Schedules have been adhered to throughout with lots of detail of quality fittings and finishes. Brilliant strategical planning with excellent tradesmen who have all offered any advice needed.I could not recommend anyone more highly.
