Well, having checked recent reviews, seems I'm not the only person to have issues with the door staff. When you've got a stone cold sober bloke in his 50s demanding to hand over wallets at lunchtime, stating the policy is to check wallets, you're going to rapidly lose customers.Well, quick edit to respond to the owners comment. Looking at recent reviews, there are an awful lot of negative comments about door staff. Quick Google shows a number of assaults on the premise in various local news sites. Some other intersting things came up when Googling. Fair to say I won't be back. Ironically used to go in semi regularly 25 years back when it was The Grapes.

A Wednesday afternoon and 12 of us on a works do. Aged between late 30s and early 50s wanting a beer in an iconic bar (most of us growing up with the stone roses, oasis etc) and the doorman wouldn’t let us in saying the “York policy” is maximum of 6 people in a group(?), creating a hostile environment. A real shame as that would have been the highlight of the day.

What an amazing place. The music is obviously brilliant, and it's not all Stone Roses. Lots and lots of vodka bottles on the wall ready to make lots of cocktails. If you are a fan of the Manchester music scene, the decor of this pub is for you. Definitely worth a visit.

Very nice bar and place however sadly the bouncers let it down. So extremely rude to everyone, swearing in their faces and shouting to a group of girls, disgusting really. Employ better bouncers otherwise you’ll loose costumers. One in particular, Jerry, especially rude, intimidating, overall vile. Not the only people that feel like this, a lot of people have complained about the awful behaviour of the disgusting bouncers.

The Stone Roses Bar
This was a flashy bar to go drinking at, welcoming anyone from the start with the Stone Roses and London Underground symbols outside! The decorations like records, street signs and frames add vibrancy and the bar is well-presented. I had a bottle of Sol and London Dry Gin with a unique Vimto mix, sitting comfortable at a clean table!

They really need to sort out their bouncers man... Any time I've been in there the horrible attitude of the bouncers has ruined it for me. One of them was really weird and the other looked like he was trying to pick a fight at any available opportunity.There's some way better places nearby, I would look somewhere else if I were you.

What a joke of a place, the manager asked the doorman to refuse my friend entry as he lost his footing on the wet cobbles outside and accused him of being drunk, thanks for attempting to ruin or Christmas works party.It didn't work, we went elsewhere and spent money enjoying ourselves.You should change your name to the Grinch

Great music and love the interior! Staff member was super helpful when I asked about where live music was on. Will visit again for sure next time I'm in York.
