When I found out Charles Rennie Mackintosh had designed the interior of a house in England, I made it my mission to visit. What a fantastic find. A grade 2 listed Georgian house with stunning Mackintosh interior/architecture. £9 for an adult ticket, which included a guided tour...this took about an hour. A special thanks to Elaine, who showed us around and gave a detailed insight into the history of the property and its occupants. The Dining Room restaurant and a gift shop on site. Photography allowed. If you're in the area, this delightful historic property is well worth a visit.

We have lived here for many years and always wanted to visit. It was lovely, well worth the wait. Very interesting! I've always loved this style of architecture. Sadly we hadn't booked for the restaurant so we couldn't have a drink there.

78 Derngate is a very interesting place to visit. Why haven't I been here before? It's history on our doorstep. It was fascinating exploring the house and marvelling at the different designs. My favourites were the guest room and lounge. I'm looking forward to visiting again

A very interesting tour by a guide who obviously loved the place and knew a lot of information. She was lively and well prepared. 78 Derngate is a wonderful representation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his ability to design a complete interior that was stylis, modern & functioned as a place for people to live. If you are interested in architecture and interior design, visiting this house is a must.

Fantastic place to visit, wonderful guide and much detail packed into this gem in the centre of Northampton. Lunch was fantastic but do book when you purchase your entry tickets online. Also parking prices in the city are reasonable compared to places like Cambridge.

If you are a fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, or pre-Art Nouveau design, you need to come and take a look at this house. Beautiful restoration of a terraced town house and garden, with many original features. The guest bedroom will blow your mind! If this is your kind of thing, I strongly recommend a couple of hours here. Staff are great and knowledgeable

This is a wonderful little gem of a building. Tucked away in an easily accessible corner of Northampton, close to a good source of parking, it makes for a smashing few hours of a visit. This is a fine example of a domestic Art Deco style designed by a master, but is also altogether a one off by its author. I strongly recommend the afternoon tea. It really is the best to be found in Northampton and it’s wider environs and the staff are charming and very helpful.

We had a guide take us around it was included in the price. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable and clear. She certainly added value. Without the guide you may wonder if it delivers value. The ticket enables entry for a year we will go back for a second trip in a few months time maybe without the guide the second time. There's a cafe which we didn't have time to use but we will next time. The Northampton museum is only 5 minutes walk away so between the two it was a good afternoon out.

Its a Time Capsule. A trip back in time to 1917 leading edge domestic architecture and decor purchased by the wealthy. Rennie Mackintosh designed the building and stunning decor (with a good deal of customer input/preference). Interesting to note 'what is missing' when compared to current domesticity. There are narrow stairs. A lift is available for the less able (not used). There is a small Gift Shop and a pleasant resturant both with reasonable prices. We were made most welcome, given an outline before setting off into the buiding.I'd recommend 2 hours for the tour. It cost us £8 each (2023).I thought it was good, my wife said it was fantastically interesting (Gold Star for me. Whoop!).If you want to see more Rennie Mackintosh inspirational design you will need to go to Glasgow.Hope you find it as interesting as we did.

Amazing gem of Scottish art nouveau, early art deco interior design by Mackintosh. Well worth a visit and join the guided tour for extra insights and anecdotes about the owners, design and items in the rooms.
