Scheregate Steps
This area of Colchester precinct was actually built upon the old Roman wall, still visible from the car park reached from the Scheregate Steps. Just what the town planners were thinking of by building over such an ancient site, somewhat beggars belief, but it's testimony to the building standards of those times that the fortification was still substantial enough to utilise nearly 2 millennia later...
