Bass, banjo and guitar lessons Bristol

I've been really pleased with my banjo lessons with Jacob. I had been teaching myself using online resources for around 18 months but decided it was time to get some more formal tutoring. Jacob has focussed on some of the fundamentals, providing really good insight and tips. He also has great knowledge of music and music theory which plays a big part in the lessons. I feel i've improved noticeably after only a handful of lessons. Highly recommend!

I was very apprehensive for my first lesson as I was a complete beginner and had never even held a guitar before!! He is really approachable and reassuring and allowed me to play one of his guitars to see how I got on… I loved it. Jacob gave me guidance and advice on the kit that would suit me best without spending a silly amount of money and is always available for advice and tips. Jacob is a great musician and an excellent tutor as he is very understanding, encouraging and patient. He provides guidance and tuition followed up with details notes and suggestions for homework/practice. He explains the theories and principles of what he is teaching which adds value and reinforces the lessons. An all round decent guy would 100% recommend!!

I've been taking banjo lessons with Jacob for a while now and it's been a really great experience! I've not only developed skill with the instrument but also gained a good foundational understanding of music theory. Jacob has been very welcoming and inclusive, and his lessons are approachable while pushing you to improve.

I have been learning clawhammer banjo and am making excellent progress! Definitely faster than trying it alone at least - lessons range from learning set tunes to an exploration of the foundational theories behind music. Well explained and enjoyable, and tailored to exactly what I want to learn. Can’t recommend enough!

My girlfriend bought me some bass lessons with Jacob for my birthday. I really enjoyed them and have continued lessons with him since. He tailored his lessons very well to match my musical experience and all the material I've learnt so far has been really interesting. Lessons are very interesting as well as fun and I'm really motivated to practice new exercises between lessons to continue improving. I would definitely recommend Jacob!

Jacob has been a fantastic teacher and really helped me as a complete beginner. He has broken down my bass lessons into easy snippets, with lots of great resources and song references, which really help me as music lover! We also focus on technique and I can feel myself improving each lesson.After a few months, I'm already understanding music theory more and playing along to a few songs which is great and more than I hoped for!Highly recommend.

I love my banjo lessons with Jacob! I have had my banjo for years, but there are certain tips and tricks that beginner videos on YouTube cannot give.Jacob is a great teacher and I have seen more progress in just over one month, than I have in several years of failed attempts.His approach is friendly and supportive. His lessons are structured very well including digestible chunks of theory, which is useful and super interesting. The practice/exercises he suggests to engage with in between lessons are very accessible and feel like a pleasure.Also, how rare is it to find a quality face-face banjo teacher in Bristol?!?!I would recommend Jacob to anyone looking to learn and improve.Happy playing!

Jacob is an excellent tutor who has a very approachable style of teaching. He spoke with me and observed my playing before assessing my ability and needs as a musician.Jacobs has helped me to come to a much better understanding of the theory behind playing the banjo, catering his language to my level of knowledge while keeping it fun and engaging. He has also been very helpful in improving my technique with lots of encouragement and suggestions on ways to improve. His persistence in teaching me proper techniques and fundamentals of music has helped me hugely.Jacobs provides a lot of really useful resources as well. Tabs, video links and listening suggestions as well as very comprehensive post lesson notes which I found great as it helped to condense what I'd learnt previously and give me directions in my practice ready for our next session.

Jacob teaches my son and daughter guitar and me banjo. My children really enjoy Jacob's lessons whilst making good progress. The same for me with the banjo - I was a complete beginner and feel like I am making steady progress. Jacob really is an excellent tutor.

Jacob is an amazing bass teacher! He makes learning an instrument fun. Jacob has an expert blend of teaching theory, music that I actually want to learn, and teaching me the building blocks of how music is created, so I can understand the nuances of all types of music.
