Has now been closed for several months. Sign in shop says open in Spring 2023. No indication of when, if ever, it will re-open. Not accepting book donations.

I have two issues with this bookstore. They hiked up the prices, so good deals are rare to find. They keep the prices just under what you'd pay if ordering from online. The second is they have too many great books and I cannot buy them all. ;)

This bookshop always seems to be well-stocked with the full gamult of books imaginable, sorted by category. Staffed by friendly and knowledgable volunteers, it is a pleasure to visit to see if the books you are after can be found there.

There is no doubt that that this is the best second-hand book shop in Reading, mainly because it lacks any competition. However, If that seems a little churlish, I'd add that it is the best book shop in Reading. Inevitably interesting, hugely entertaining, it's a real gem. When asked once by my sons if I'd consider moving to be closer to them I think my refusal did contain a mention of this shop. The greatest joy is that you never know what you will find. Of course the larger your range of interests the more likely you are to find something new. I thought I'd make a simple list of a few of the very many books I've got from there, just to whet your appetite.Ben Goldacre: Selected Writing.(£2.49).Snowdrops. A monograph of cultivated Galanthus (£3.99. Hardback in perfect condition).Agatha Christie: la bal de la victoire, le crime d'Halloween. (£2.99).Virgil: Eclogues. Loeb Classical Library (£4.99).Lossin; A Pillar of Fire (£9.99).A.A. Milne; Winnie De Poeh. Met tekeningen van E. H. Shepard (£1.79, pristine hardback).Hunt; The Theory and Practice of Communism (£3.99. 1st ed., 1950).and so it goes on. Always something interesting or curious (I have a Russian version of 'The Hunting of the Snark' , wonderfully illustrated).Waterstones cannot compete.

A good variety of books (including children books) and great prices. They also have delicious coffee beans.
