Great place. I would like this to be my final resting ground

Classic cemetery which is in rough condition - but the broken and tilting tombstones are both haunting and picturesque. Worth a visit for a stroll though some other visitors could be considered a bit scary" as well - so visit with a friend!"

Having been on annual tours of Commonwealth War graves sites in France and Belgium I caught sight of the familiar green CGW sign on the gates to this mixed civilian (the majority) and military cemetery. Always wanting to pay my respects to servicemen who gave their lives in the Great War I spent an hour doing just that on a crisp frosty December morning. Unusually there are some gravestones which house two, three or even four named individuals, not seen that before. There must have been a hospital nearby as many war graves show the date of death as up to two years after the end of the conflict, a reminder that deaths continued well after armistice.I was also immediately struck by the somewhat haphazard grave placing, sometimes interspersed with civilian gravestones (many of which lean about alarmingly), sometimes they are sat together, some are isolated and quite alone.Completely absent is the care and attention you see on continental sites. Maybe the relatives of these men were happy just to have them interred this way but I thought it a little disrespectful and rather sad.I did find the grave of a stoker from HMS Iris 2, famously used on the Zebrugge raid in 1918.This ship was a Mersey ferry, pressed into service for just this operation. The vessel survived the mission and afterwards returned to Merseyside, renamed the Royal Iris where she ferried scousers over the river to Wallasey and Birkenhead until scrapped in 1961.A quiet spot this and an oasis of calm in an otherwise busy city.

Didn't venture too far from the gate, I was amazed to see so many WW1 war graves , on studying there were several with 2 or more servicemen interred together, and some had died after the end of the war.I guess either died from wounds, or of influenza.

This is my favourite cemetery in Nottingham after doing ancestry we found quite a few family members of mine and my husband's in here upto x3 great grandparents on bothIt's a nice walk around but when I was looking for family people used it as a cut through from town so it seems more like a tourist attraction these days rather than the cemetery where beloved ones are

Love this place. Wild and sprawling in a picturesque way, with a wide variety of trees and charmingly higgledy-piggledy slanting gravestones. I used to take atmospheric evening walks here, before the council significantly reduced the opening hours. Also unhappy that they have removed the two fallen trees that used to serve as sheltered sitting spaces (and were surely valued by the animal residents as well).

Only visited a couple of times but a place I go to get away from the noise of the city, memorials are interesting a place (like any graveyard) to show respect for lost one's.
