About the Business

Hare's Gap - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting | The Hare’s Gap is the most dramatic mountain pass in the Mournes. Its sharply defined outline indicates that ice once passed this way; using the Gap’s convenient north-south alignment to advance and retreat over the entire Mournes range. In more recent times the Hare’s Gap marked the exit point for smuggled goods which had crossed the hills from the coast along the Brandy Pad.

Quite an off-track climb; but exhilarating all the same. Great craic with the men involved.

Hare's Gap
Great intermediate path that starts off easy and builds the difficulty the further you go.Plenty of access to other paths also so you can link trails together

Nice 3,5km walk to Hare's Gap from the car park (and 3,5km back the same way). Not crowded in early September 2019. The last part is mostly climbing on rocks and finding your own way up, but nothing too difficult. On the way back you can use a ridge path on the left for a bit more variation. Excellent view from the gap to the valley below!

Not a hard walk to Hares Gap by any means although would still recommend good walking shoes and prepare for 4 seasons in one day. TIP: Use Carpark at Mealmore Lodge for car security. Great views either side of the gap and perfect spot to have a cuppa and reflect on how beautiful our country is.

Hare's Gap
About 1 hour from the car park, very big path, just the last bit is a bit muddy and steep. Very windy up top. Went on to the slieve bernagh, about 1 extra hour. Fantastic views on the whole hike.
