Gareth Lewis Guitar Repair

I bought a Martin mahogany O 17 guitar, made in 1944, just over a year ago. It had suffered badly over the years and had been repaired many, many times - mostly badly and unprofessionally. Gareth took on the seemingly impossible task of putting all that right. I got the guitar back this week. I have been playing it non stop. It plays and sounds absolutely brilliant.The basic issue was that the X frame bracing under the top had completely collapsed, and most of the things that were currently wrong had been caused as a result of that. As well as correcting the earlier poor repairs, Gareth put in stronger bracing and re-built the guitar, including a neck re-set, a re-fret and a new nut. The old O 17 now has a new voice and a long future as a lovely and comfortable playable guitar. Thank you Gareth.You are a genius.

Gareth recently completed a setup on my ESP E-II Eclipse. He was very accommodating at short notice and comfortable working to a tight deadline.Previously my guitar wasn’t quite feeling right (bad fret buzz/intonation/action/pickups - the usual issues guitars have!) and I had problems with the way I was using the Evertune bridge. Part of this was due to the tuning (Drop B) as I was using 10-52 gauge strings which simply weren’t heavy enough even with the Evertune to function optimally.Gareth recommended using a set of 12-60 gauge strings which I was initially apprehensive about but I’m glad I trusted his judgment. I’ve just finished 3 days of rehearsals after getting this guitar back and it was a pleasure to play - it’s easily the best it has sounded thanks to Gareth’s setup. The action, string tension and intonation are vastly improved as is the overall tone and resonance of this guitar.I am extremely happy with the attention to detail and high standard of work done here and I would highly recommend Gareth to others needing their instruments setup. I look forward to taking him more guitars to fix in future!

Fantastic Set-up from Gareth on my Squier Tele. It's now a pleasure to play. Have also used Gareth for a Re-fret/Set-up on my Yamaha LL16 & Set-up on my Ibanez Bass, all excellent. Highly recommended.

Have been using Gareth exclusively for about ten years. He has set up Martins, Fenders, and Gibsons and installed pickups in them all for me. He's an old-school craftsman and a jolly good egg to boot. Very reasonable prices and quick turnaround.Since I wrote this review, Gareth has done jobs for me on a Martin OM-21 and a D-28 1941 Authentic, transforming them with his alchemy into instruments fit for the hands of a god or goddess. Truly his fingers are those of a wizard and one wonders if he can really be of this earth.

Picked up my Yamaha Acoustic Dreadnought yesterday. Absolutely 100% happy with the result. Gareth set up the guitar and lowered the action. The result is a guitar that is far easier to play. I can manage chords that I had given up playing a few years ago. Thank you Gareth Lewis.

I asked Gareth to sort out issues with fret buzz and give my guitar a full service. He has re crowned the frets and replaced damaged strings. The action has been improved and it has had a good polish. It feels like a brand new guitar again. Many thanks and thoroughly recommend his skill, knowledge and patience and value for money in servicing.

Gareth is such a nice person. Better still he's a genius when it comes to fixing and maintaining guitars. Price seemed very reasonable and the guitar sounds better than new.

I've had quite a few guitars set up by Gareth now. Reliable, professional and to a very high standard. The first guitar I took to him was a Martin travel acoustic in need of repair. Before finding Gareth, a few had said it could not be fixed and others were quoting prices more than it was worth. Gareth didn't hesitate to take on the job and completed it for an extremely reasonable price.Highly recommended.
