St John the Baptist, Little Maplestead

Well worth a look a piece of history in Essex

I am lucky enough to have seen all four of the remaining round churches in England alas I have only been inside two . This one and Cambridge both of which are fantastic .The Church of John the Baptist Little Maplestead is built on a site given to the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem known as the knights Hospitaller and still has association with them today .Amazingly this Curch is only Grade 11 listed but is beautifully peaceful nevertheless . I sat here for ages and just felt calm and all my worries just floated away . Just maybe the Knights are still healing people today . Such a serene place

This church is one of only four round churches still in use in England and was built on a site given to the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. the present church was probably built around 1335 and is the latest of the four round churches.The church is normally open for viewing and well worth a visit.
