St Bartholomew's Church, Furtho

Really enjoyed the visit, had a good look around and took some photos. Appreciated that the church was left open and also it's simplicity.

Great looking church in the historical location of Furtho, a village that died out. The church itself is a great visit but it's also co-located with a very old dovecote. The church sits in the grounds of a wedding venue but is accessible at any time to members of the public. Parking is amongst the nearby barns and businesses and the church is standing close to the lake. The insides of the church have been modified over time and the outside appears to be Norman attached to perhaps an older chapel. It's nice to look at and try to work out what's been changed and what's original. A local church in care of the church conservation trust. Access is down a farm a track with parking at the rear of a barn. The church is a nice setting with a small lake behind it. The church itself is a simple affair and although atmospheric there isn't overly a lot to take in . For me the main interest was the associated 15thc dovecot. Which is open and free to go into. There was an info board within too explain the history . You won't spend long here but it is worth a look.
