Smeaton's Bridge
A lovely bridge with loads of history. We were visiting on Christmas light switch on night so had a good view from here. Haven't walked across the bridge since I was very small.

The council stupidly put boulards along the already narrow bridge preventing ambulances from getting through... they did a half attempt at putting them into place, as you can see half of them have rusted and stick out in funny places...being one of the main bridges into Perth you would think it would at least look half decent... obviously paint will wear off but the bridge is needing a new coat... they should have done this whilst the council shut the bridge down

Always a great view of the Tay from this bridge , interesting markings showing the flood heights on the western end at the entrance to the North Inch, traffic can be very busy on the bridge

Smeaton's Bridge
Fantastic old bridge which is a landmark on the River Tay as it flows through the city of Perth. It has stood since about 1770 and, considering its age, is a truly remarkable feat of construction. About 100 years after being opened, it was widened slightly but to all intents and purposes it is the same bridge as the architect John Smeaton designed. If you take the time and trouble to have a proper look, you will see various notches and marks which indicate the height of numerous floods and the years in which they occurred. Throughout everything which the mighty River Tay has thrown at the Bridge, it has stood strong through the years and now carries huge volumes of vehicular traffic which could never have been envisaged by John Smeaton. An amazing structure right under our noses, and one which we take for granted. Stop and have a proper look next time you pass. You won't be disappointed.

Closed when river levels are high disrupting the whole town causing frustration and people to drive more idiotic than usual.

Fabulous little holiday apartment for small family. Beautifully situated beside the river bank and 5 mins walk into town. Was well pleased with our stay.

If you want to get a great shot of Perth, this is the place to bring your camera. You can look back along the road and see the Perth Museum, or you can look over the side and get the church and the other old buildings that line the waterfront.
