Gelli Aur Country Park

Unfortunately, a sign on the gate says that they have had to take the difficult decision to close. The gates are locked, and there is no longer any entry to any part of the grounds. I’m sure from the previous reviews that it was a lovely place, and I look forward to finding out for myself if they ever choose to reopen.

Spent several hours at the park really enjoyed. Some spectacular trees, and lovely walk around the estate, dogs welcome too,ours really enjoyed there run. Sad the house not open to the public, but they are working on it.nice day all topped of with coffee and cakes in the cafe

After coming to the area for 20 years to visit Aberglasney this was my first visit to Gelli Aur. I had no idea it was there, it really is Carmarthenshire's best kept secret. The house and park have huge potential, with substantial funding this would be a major visitor attraction. As it stands the house is closed, proper signage and information is desperately needed and everything does feel a little run down and in need of attention. But there are plenty of positives, the Arboretum is magnificent, the views wonderful, nice walks and friendly staff in the cafe. Plus it's free to visit, just car parking to pay for. Well worth supporting this place.

Surprised at how run down this was. Cafe was closed too. After a short walk where we got back to the road and walked past the church to the entrance where we were told that the park was actually shut that day. No signs to say that but the opening times on the board said open everyday except Christmas day and new years day. Then told that we had to get the car out within the next half hour. Can't see ourselves going again. Far to run down to enjoy and kot worth the car park fee!!!

We hadn't visited Gelli Aur since it closed and popped along for a look last weekend. We do not necessarily disagree with the parking fee that is now levied, the fact that this can be reclaimed is not terribly clear but a great strategy for getting people into the cafe.The cafe, as some have described, is a primarily glass house situated at the top of the hill looking North over the beautiful land that Gelli Aur is blessed with. On the day that we were here last, there was a very welcoming fire, lit in the beautiful burner at the far end of the building and it felt like a warm dry sanctuary from the harsh elements outside. The staff in the cafe are always warm and welcoming too and can't do enough to help you have a pleasant visit.We walked into the forest surrounding the house and tracked deer after hearing their calls, we saw some wonderful wildlife, found some strange fungus and jolly well had an excellent time!I don't think it will be a regular for us. There just isn't enough yet but we are looking forward to the future at Gelli Aur (especially the boating lake) and are intrigued to know what that will look like and when we will see it!

Lovely log fire within the conservatory. Fantastic freshly cooked mince pies with brandy butter and cream and a wonderful cup of tea. Pleasant and friendly service.Nice bird feeder visible from within the conservatory but unfortunately no deer.Car park charge of £2.50 for 4 hours.
