St Mary’s Church : Hendon

A tiny gorgeous old church and churchyard atop the hill. St Marys is a very picturesque well maintained building which is perfect for photography. Since it's on top of the hill with the park behind it, it gets very good sunsets if visited at the right time of year and season. The courtyard/graveyard as well is very pretty and as well as really old tombs and graves it has a really nice harmony with the woods in and around it. Blends senselessly with the adjacent park beside it.Probably the centre of the churchyard if you are visiting for a photo shoot would be the tomb in the picture under the big tree

Beautful church and an amazing choir

Beautiful historic church - the site was mentioned as a church in the Domesday Book - there's a Norman font, wall decoration from C17th, plenty of Victorian stained glass and a modern organ (that gets plenty of use with a fabulous choir at Evensong). Interesting graves & memorials, including former Arsenal manager and founder of Singapore, Raffles.Plenty of space for socially distanced worship service and perfect for individual prayer with God-centred inspiration all around.

I loved the service. Great church

Went inside to gather my thoughts and was greeted by a girl guide captain that I used to know she cheered me up.

Used to attend church here from 92 till 98 when I was at st Mary's school next door. They painted it white, don't remember it being white.

Credit to Vicar Julie Gettoes, staff, volunteers and everyone involved for the organising and maintaining this beautiful church and grounds. There’s regular events and friendly coffee mornings/afternoons, keeping the community pulse going.
