Excellent little shop. Very helpful keeper too, troubleshot my cables and fuses and sorted out the problems for the price of the replacement products.

Yup..... just what you've always wanted... fantastic extra virgin olive oil and spare 13amp fuses right in the one store... how convenient is that? The owner and his son are super friendly and always happy to chat. They own turkish and cypriot olive farms and are obviously very proud of their produce. As previous posts have mentioned, they've picked up a fair bit of press and rightly so.

I usually find it very difficult to buy high quality olive oil in London. But discovering that I could get top notch olive oil in my area in a discreet electricals shop was unbelievable. A hidden gem for olive oil connoisseur!

I received a bottle of this olive oil as a gift and now I've had it, I'll never go anywhere else for my olive oil. Absolutely pure and delicious! The very best!

Very friendly owners that even let you try some of their products before purchase. Half liter of Olive oil costs £6.90.

Super little shop, stuffed with everything imaginable for electrical jobs and most other DIY improvements. What's more, the prices at Embassy Electrical are extremely reasonable and the Turkish Cypriot owner and his son, Mr Murat and Murat Jr, are lovely friendly people who are happy to pass on their considerable knowledge and advice about the trade. If that weren't enough, they also sell some of the best olive oil I've ever tasted, harvested from their family-owned olive grove back in Cyprus and hand-pressed and packaged by relatives. Not only can you take your own bottles to the shop to be filled for a discount, the shop's shelves are groaning with many other examples of their home-grown Murat du Carta olive oil-derived products as diverse as soaps, plump red peppers soaked in olive oil filled jars, olive oil pickled baby aubergines, olive oil infused with various herbs, exotic spices such as jars of frankincense, and even small bottles of St John's Wort-infused extra virgin olive oil. And that's just a few of the juicy, flavourful products available, along with packets of 5 amp fuses, electrical extension cords, wire strippers, lightbulbs, plugs, and all the other tools of the sparky's trade. I have lived in the area for over 30 years and like to think I know the good from the bad when it comes to shopping locally. Sadly, due to the advancing army of Starbucks, Prets, Tesco and the like plus the subsequent demand for more homes, EC1 has suffered enormously with the bulldozing of whole streets and the frequent closure of individually-owned shops unable to withstand the huge hike in rents. Thank goodness this eccentric treasure of a shop is still going strong, a little off the beaten track but well worth making the effort to find. Compton Street is a one-way side street that runs between Goswell Road and St John's Street (both leading to Old Street), with Embassy Electric at the St John Street end, just round the corner from Waitrose and Pret a Manger. Where else can you buy a couple of lightbulbs (a large selection to choose from and cheaper than anywhere else locally, including Argos), get a bottle of 5 star quality artisan olive oil (again, very reasonably priced), along with a friendly natter and a quick lesson on how to change a fuse with a 3 amp throw in for good measure? This is what shopping and shopkeepers used to be like. Embassy Electrical aka Murat du Carta on Compton Street, EC1. Go! You won't be disappointed.
