I seriously considered leaving a review for here before I did, but ultimately decided I didn’t want to leave anyone in the same position as me. I’d chosen Tailors over my usual alterations place as it had such great reviews, and the dress I needed altering was for my uncle’s wedding that had been long awaited, and far more expensive than anything I’d ever needed fitted before; unfortunately I was very let down. My initial fitting time (which I’d booked well in advance to coincide the bride being in Edinburgh) was a joke; the lady who runs it couldn’t have cared less I was there and wasn’t interested in my concerns about the pins - on top of that she started dealing with someone else for several minutes whilst I was still stood in the dress - to the point that my aunt had to enquire as to whether I could change. The attached are the AFTER photos of my alterations here that cost £60. I was so incredibly disappointed, and told that nothing extra could be done because of the ‘boning’ in the dress (I’d lost two dress sizes since it had been ordered). This was a Jenny Packham bridesmaid gown, and I had to take it to a second tailor to fix the mistakes Tailors made. I was refused a refund; despite the fact they’d cut out material (instead of preserved it), taken too much material on one side, and put the back zip back wonky - and even then it didn’t fit! Go to Master Sewing and save yourself the hassle. This place was amazing a few years ago (apparently) and they preserve celebs on the walls, but the service was terrible for me and I won’t be back. Master Sewing saved the day, and the dress fit and looked amazing at the wedding.

I went to get my wedding dress altered and then I got a call saying I needed to come back to “be sure before they cut it.” So I basically had to go back and get remeasured because the first lady who worked on it had messed it up. On my second go, a woman named Vivienna a re-did my dress and she was brilliant. But then I had to go back a third time to pick up the dress and the employee was unfriendly. They tried to give me the dress without asking me to try it on. I tried it on anyway and it was wrinkled. I asked If they could steam it because there was a massive craze in it and I guess they did… but I wouldn’t really know because they folded up my wedding dress and put it in a paper bag and sent me off - in the rain. It’s now incredibly wrinkled. I do like the way my dress turned out, besides the fact that it’s a wrinkled mess, truly unwearable as it is - but I wouldn’t recommend this place.

I debated whether to leave this review because I don’t like leaving bad reviews especially for smaller business. However because it was alterations to my wedding dress, I would really urge other brides (or anyone with a special garment) to give this place a miss. I bought a gorgeous second hand 1970s wedding dress, which only needed minor adjustments to take it in a little at the waist and lower the back into a more prominent V shape. When I took it in to explain what I wanted, I felt barely listened to by the seamstress and lady who owns the shop. When I came to collect it the following week, it was just a mess. I really can’t explain what they had done, but it was now way too tight, there was (inexplicably) lots of extra loose fabric in the underarms and the zip at the back was bulky and stuck out. When I asked for it to be fixed the lady was initially dismissive and mocking and then shouted at me (and I mean literally shouted at me) in the middle of the shop. She did later (half) apologise and they took it back to fix it (very small token partial refund pretty much thrown at me, in cash, in the shop) but it really wasn’t any better second time round and I worried that they longer they had it, the worse it would get. I ended up taking it to a place in Stockbridge where they salvaged it as best they could, but it was never right again. Unfortunately some of the worst issues (e.g. the zip, tightness around the ribs) is obvious from my wedding photos, which is a bit upsetting. I really regret taking my dress here.

Amazing at all alterations I’ve had done.I had my wedding dress altered here and was not expensive, was delighted with the price especially in comparison to the price quoted in the shop I bought my wedding dress from.Wouldn’t go anywhere else.Staff amazing x

Would recommend that you use this place if your up for an argument and not in a rush for your alterations. I would not use it if your averse to confrontation or your particularly shy. Either way I would check the garments carefully before you leave the shop.I'll give them 2 stars, it was sorted in the end and I got the cost back, minus the dry cleaning bill.So the detail;It's been a few years since I had my kilt made and it was getting to the point I needed it let out. I was recommended this place by another tailor and by all accounts the majority of the work they do is very good. As long as you don't mind a bit of back and fourth on the customer service. It can be a little rough around the edges. I was not prepared for what I was about the encounter.So I have two positives,1. They eventually fixed the problems that they had created during the alterations, after 4 attempts.2. They did refund me for work, which I was not expecting and was really quite reasonable. It hadn't been too expensive to start with.However;1. I was filled full of promises on my first visit, only to be disappointed.2. When I identified issues with the work somehow it was my fault.3. The owner doesn't seem to trust the staff to make decisions so everything takes too long to resolve.4. They seemed totally out of their depth with the alterations I had asked for.5. They are always keen to blame others for mistakes... and damages.6. They never call when they say they will.In the end we got a result, I was then very publicly thrown out the shop and told never to come back. I guess they have no desire to have their quality scrutinised.I found that hilarious, others might be quite offended.

Excellent and speedy service! The young person who assisted me when I came in was exceptionally careful with my measurements and very attentive informing me of the date and time for pickup. My shortening of the trousers was done and ready for pickup the next day. Very happy with the stitching!

Excellent had alterations done on a tweed jacket, great advice on what was needed, from the experienced staff and a brilliant job completed

This place was recommended to me by a friend. All the staff here were really lovely, helpful and did a wonderful job at altering my dresses. I even took in a dress that had already been fitted (badly) by another tailor. Would highly recommend.

We’ve been using Tailors for a number of years in Edinburgh and would always recommend them. Tailors did an amazing job in perfecting a dress and jumpsuit for my wife for our wedding and with my suit. The fit on each of the items was exactly as we wanted in spite of some tricky alterations being required. Thank you so much for your great service and impeccable work!
