This restaurant is dirty, the front mat is sticky, the tables never seem to get a good clean. The fish & chips are greasy. How they have got a 5 star rating is beyond me. In the take away side the paintwork is filthy and a lot of the time they have young people cooking and serving on, they have no ideal. We bought fish & chips and the fish was horrible and the chips were pale, soggy and hard in the middle.

I had battered sausage and it was diabolical it was rank the chips were that thin I could hardly find them I WOULD not recommend them at all

I've been a regular in the Knaresborough Road (Harrogate) restaurant for quite a few years. The fish and chips are excellent but the service varies from average to appalling. There seems to be a high turnover of staff, many straight from school and more interested in their mobiles than looking after customers. On a recent visit my wife and I were the only ones in, yet the young man in charge still forgot half the order. Hygiene levels behind the counter were dubious too. The restaurant/shop desperately needs a responsible senior to oversee management.

One haddock, chips & mushy peas, for her very good although she doesn't like skin on fries. She raved about the peas. I had a plaice and chips, batter looked very light, but it was deceiving, the top was light but under very doughy, I peeled the batter off and found the plaice quite tasteless, I like skin on fries, but I also like them hot and a bit firmer, didn't give me the impression of recently cooked. Two pickled onions as my side, first one firm, but the other was unedited, but as I only expected one.

This place has gone downhill so much recently. Every time my partner and I decide to get food from here (which isn't often), it's been abysmal. Overcooked, brown chips, hard chips, meager chip portions. They must be reheated or something. The fish is always kinda bland. My partner said it's honestly the worst fish and chips he's ever had, today. I will say they do the best mushy peas, though.It's dingy in there and the staff are mostly men (one with a lengthy beard on him today... Don't think that's very hygienic!) which doesn't make for a pleasant atmosphere.I would honestly rather spend the extra £5 and go 5 minutes down the road and go to Bradley's in Starbeck. Bright, friendly, organised, always busy (because their food is great) and always perfect food. Not had a single issue yet.I don't think I'll ever get food from Drakes Knaresborough Road again after today.

Whole place needs a good clean. Needs better quality fish, chips & mushy peas. The peas tasted weird. Value for money? Yes, you get what you pay for but the standard of Drakes has fallen, in my opinion

Food quality was overall good with delivery. Feel like a few little touches let them down. Hand battered scampi tasted like the normal frozen packet style and in the sides it mentions homemade tartare sauce. As an option when you select items you can choose sauce options but Heinz packet was sent. I can see that was probably my fault because i didn't order homemade sauce separately but feels a bit cheap when you've got a homemade option to throw in a packet instead. Haddock size was good and chips nice.

Placed an order with drakes last week, scraps were missing from the orders which isn’t much of a big deal, but when they send you things that are not on your order, in this case battered mushrooms (which I am allergic to mushrooms) it’s not even remotely acceptable, I’ll attach pictures of the receipt and food. How can this be acceptable? If I had eaten them and gone into anaphylactic shock, this would have been a different story. Went through just eat as it was ordered from there to complain and they wouldn’t even slightly refund anything as an apology! Avoid this place like the plague!

Disappointing! Chips ok, ordered one small one regularly! Both the same size, (small)Fish cake had no fish ! It resembled a potato cake!Curry sauce was OK but not enough chips to use all the sauce!!!£14 for the privilege!Shame was looking forward to them!!!
