Structural Learning

Paul is a professional and experienced educational expert and is extremely approachable. He has been leading a series of engaging workshops with colleagues at our school and really has generated a spark and thirst for more. His structured thinking frameworks and additional resources are a must for any school!

We have been absolutely thrilled to start our Metacognition journey with Paul and Structural Learning. Developing our learners to ensure that they are independent thinkers is key for us at our school. We are in the early days of adapting planning and introducing children to the terminology and framework icons, but already we can see that it is giving us another level of depth and learning security in the classroom. The new website is stunning, and we feel secure that it is based on the best research. With Paul at the forefront, he has bedazzled staff and given us the strong start that we wished for. I would wholeheartedly recommend Structural Learning in the Prep and Pre Prep sector - we are converts here at Bablake Junior School.

Paul delivered an insightful INSET session to the staff on metacognition and what this looks like in the classroom. Staff found the session interesting and enjoyed the 'hands on' approach.

I find Structural Learning a great platform to learn new things and ideas from. Paul inspires teachers and educators in looking at learning from a different perspective. Why we learn and make students think from the perspective of cognitive science is what we all need to know. i have been able to pick strategies to implement with my teachers, looking forward to learn more from Paul and Structural Learning.

Structural Learning and Paul’s wealth of expertise has proven invaluable to the Outreach Team at UEA during the creation of a set of Year 7 metacognition workshops to support local schools in raising attainment. Working in partnership with Paul has enabled the development of a progressive programme of activities which equips learners with a ‘toolkit’ empowering them to be more confident, self-aware and resilient. The advice and guidance that Paul has offered along the way has always been based on the most robust research. Paul’s understanding of metacognition and his ability to come up with practical and realisable solutions to address metacognitive barriers is highly commendable!

Resources from the structural learning website have been really useful. I regularly read the blog posts and find them engaging and informative and help me reflect on my own practice for example on use of graphic organisers.I use the writer's blocks in my lessons and students both enjoy and benefit from using them. The structural learning website is highly recommended.

Paul has delivered several workshops and courses for schools in our Association. They are always practically helpful for teachers and thought provoking for Headteachers who are considering and planning for the learning environment in their own schools. I would thoroughly recommend him.

Paul delivered a highly engaging session on how children learn and pedagogy to our trainee teachers last week. It was pitched perfectly and packed with useful content. There were lots of opportunities for discussion. Most impressive were the ways in which Paul supported trainees to engage practically with complex ideas.

Paul spoke at our Annual Conference delivering two seminar sessions. These sessions proved very popular amongst the members during the booking process and also after the conference receiving very positive feedback. We have booked Paul for two further courses for our members off the back of the conference

We are currently setting up a school overseas and made the decision to use Paul Main's Structural Learning early on. We believe that this approach to learning will really suit our students, who are predominantly EAL, in their ability to categorize and draw on skills from lesson to lesson. The resources are colorful and simple and Paul is even helping to make these bilingual for our Chinese students.So far I have found Paul to be very timely in his communication and very accepting of requests and feedback. We hope to work with him for a long time into the future.
