It was such a beautiful place, I enjoyed the fresh air and the views. Only thing I say is there is no parking anywhere near the area

03/10/22: been up here quite a few times walking the dog. Free parking on Edenfield Road, close to Owd Betts pub, postcode: OL12 7TY. Walk directly up and around following the footpaths. Can be muddy and wet in Autumn/Winter and bear in mind if you deviate off the path, it is moorland peat and becomes waterlogged.Each of the towers stand 60 metres (almost 200 feet) in height. Also noticeable from close-to is that, whilst from a distance the turbines appear white in bright sunshine, they are actually painted light grey; this is because this colour is the most inconspicuous in typical British daylight. The paint finish is matt to reduce reflected light.The wind farm at Scout Moor and Knowl Moor is a 26-turbine site on an open upland moor of peat bog and heather in the South Pennines, reaching a maximum elevation of 1,552 feet (473 m) at its peak. It is the largest onshore wind farm in England; the site occupies an area of 1,347 acres (545 ha) and its 26 turbines stretch for nearly two miles across the moor and are visible from as far away as south Manchester, 15–20 miles (24–32 km) away.The wind farm has a total capacity of about 65 mega watts - enough electricity to supply about 40,000 homes. It is claimed it reduces the amount of carbon dioxide from coal-fired power stations by 166,000 tonnes each year.When severe gales sweep Britain, some wind farms have to be shut down because the wind was too strong. They have to be stopped if the wind is stronger than 25 metres per second.
