Lake District Mountaineering

I would recommend LDM/Sam to anyone looking for high quality mountaineering instruction, and in particular to anyone with some experience that they're looking to build on (although I'm sure LDM would be great for beginners too!).My partner and I booked onto the Advanced Scrambling course. Sam was excellent; personable and professional. Sam focused on allowing us to properly put into practice (under his supervision) techniques that he had demonstrated and talked through. We found this crucial in helping us learn and both came away feeling we'd learnt more mountaineering skills in two days than we might have on longer, but less tailored courses. In my view, LDM offer excellent value for money.

We hired Sam to help us get up Scafell Pike in the Lake District.We had a range of ages going from 8 up to 50 and a range of climbing experiences.Sam was punctual, very professional in how he worked starting with the route, safety and clothing etc. Then while climbing he was guiding us on good technique, history of the location, wildlife and was great with the kids.Highly recommended and would happily use him again

I had a days guided climbing with Sam at Lake District Mountaineering - fantastic day out, and thoroughly professional guiding. Great routes selected for the day and I had a great time and would book again the next time I am in the Lake district.

Sam's knowledge and experience boarders on genius!I attended a winter skills course during which time the patches of snow were few and far between, barely even there at times. HOWEVER, every day Sam was able accurately predict locations far out of sight that would provide us with excellent conditions for learning the skills he had set out within our itinerary.With shelter from the persisting winds and lots of snow, he set about teaching the group. He was friendly, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. The group bombarded him with questions and he was able to provide indepth answers on every occasion.I can't recommend his services enough!

There's not much about the mountains that Sam doesn't know.He's very professional, organised and knowledgeable.Any weather, any time and any place in the lakes he offered us all of it.Sam also has a wealth of knowledge for the more advanced climbers too.Would highly recommend!

Me and my husband had a fantastic morning scrambling up Stickle Ghyll. Sam was a great guide, he let us lead the way safely and helped us with the more challenging parts. He also made sure to take some photographs of us as part of the package which are a great keepsake. Interesting conversation and very knowledgeable inbetween. Would highly recommend Sam and his course!

Top ochtend beleefd met dank aan Sam. We gingen rotsklimmen met twee kinderen (8 en 10). Uitstekende begeleiding en goede aandacht voor veiligheid. Volgende keer een hele dag!

Booked a 2 day winter skills in the Cairngorms.10/10 all round.Great comms pre course & kit lists etc.Excellent hire boots & crampons (perfect conditions & spotlessly clean) really good vibes & plenty of learning throughout the weekend. Would highly recommend
