Spent a great couple of days in Northumberland for the learn to lead 2 day course. Learned loads, had fun and most importantly came away with the skills required to safely lead climb. Even managed to lead my first route at the end of the second day! Tom was an absolute star - encouraging, professional, knowledgeable and just an all round nice bloke. He was very happy to answer questions and cover extra skills and has even followed up with email advice for appropriate gear and local routes. Would highly recommend and am looking forward to returning for the rescue course next year!

Tom is a legend. He make my first experience bouldering an absolute pleasure and easy enough to pick up for a first timer. Would highly recommended booking a session with him and learning from the best.

I recently participated in an outdoor climbing 6 hour beginner session in Northumberland with Tom (Climb GB). He is evidently extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the outdoors and this comes across in abundance in his personality. Tom is very easy to work with and he was thorough in all explanations/demonstrations of the skills we used throughout the day. He also gave great encouragement when I needed it on some of the more challenging climbs. I learnt lots of new information and reinforced previously learnt skills which was one of my aims from the session. Importantly, all of these skills were taught with safety as a priority, and it was clear that Tom takes safety very seriously which was a constant reassurance.I can't recommend Climb GB and Tom's services enough. I got everything and more out of this session and I will not hesitate to book again. I very much look forward to interacting with and learning from Tom again in the near future.

Absolutely brilliant morning out with Tom bouldering - it was a private session for my daughter, my wife and I and it was great.

Had a fantastic day hiking up Helvellyn!Tom knows the lakes very well and while leading the group he answered any questions we had as well as giving us some interesting facts about the history of the area, plants and the landscape.He communicated everything that was happening throughout the day and made sure we were included in any decisions. At the start of the hike he went through the route on a map and at certain intervals throughout the day he pointed out where were at along with some information on map reading.Throughout the hike Tom ensured everyone stayed together and was enjoying the hike by going at a steady pace. He offered to carry someone's bag when they started to struggle during a difficult section of the walk and frequently checked in with each member of the group. Tom also provided helmets for everyone when scrambling up Swirral Edge as an extra safety precaution which goes to show he puts everyone's safety first.Overall it was a very enjoyable hike and Tom is a friendly and experienced guide who we'd love to have again on any future trips!

(2 day learn to lead outdoors) I had previously never done any outdoor climbing or lead climbing of any kind but Tom enthusiastically personalized the course to my ability. Tom is incredibly knowledgeable and patient and he ensures you make the most of your time on the course. I would thoroughly recommend the course to people of any ability if you are keen to try trad climbing.

Whilst on our honeymoon, my wife and I headed to Northumberland, having heard of its beautiful countryside and hidden gem climbing. We looked for a climbing guide/instructor based in the area on google, and quickly found Climb GB. We’ve been climbing indoors for about 3 years now, all on top rope and wanted to transition into outdoor climbing.We completed a 2 day Learn to Lead course outdoors. Tom taught us the essentials of climbing outdoors and trad climbing on crags. As the course is in 2 venues, each day we looked at crag and route selection, placing gear and setting up belays in different settings, and covering all options depending on different rock types and availability of anchors.On the first day, we did lots of protection work and single anchor belay, culminating in us both seconding a 12m route. On the second day, after a few more learning points on multi-point anchor systems, we each lead a climb with a ghost rope while the other seconded and cleared it. Tom gave us ample opportunity to ask questions around climbing in general, and no question was considered too daft.The instruction was clear, relaxed and with the right level of pace to make it interesting and challenging. The second day culminated in Tom giving us the chance to lead a route independently with no ghost rope, whilst he jumared up next to us for support. Tom was really encouraging and patient, and we really enjoyed his company for the 2 days.By the end of the course, through the instruction provided, Tom made us feel confident we are competent in all the safety aspects, setting up multi point anchors for belays etc., and we are ready to go out and climb routes on our own. Graciously his tutelage continues via email now, as we start purchasing gear and look for accessible climbs around the UK.We would highly recommend Climb GB to anyone looking for an experience in the outdoors, we hope to find an excuse to return to the north and enlist his services once more!Thank you Tom!J & MC

Myself and three friends had a 6-hour outdoor climbing taster session for five people in Northumberland this weekend with Climb GB, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Tom is a fantastic instructor and his passion for climbing really shines through. We're now considering booking onto the lead climbing course he runs as we got so much out of this.I should also say that for Tom, safety is paramount, and this side of things was always clearly and effectively communicated, which allowed us to have an even better time through knowing we were in safe hands. Awesome session and would totally recommend!
