Bells Hotel & Country Club

Only giving 2 stars because I received a full refund. Paid £138 for a room for four people and the room was absolutely filthy with dust everywhere and the carpet wasn't hoovered. There was mold in the shower and the floor was disgusting.The hotel itself feels like a care home and smells like one too. It's incredibly dated and not a country club at all.I had the worst night sleep I've ever had. There was people running up and down the corridor shouting and banging doors all night long. There was also a dog barking in the next room.We were told the times for breakfast but when we went to eat we were told we had room only.I can't fault the lady on reception who sorted a full refund but I really would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Two car parks. Separate hotel and clubhouse buildings about 50 yards apart. Food good. Staff friendly and efficient. Everywhere clean and tidy. My room recently updated but needed minor additions. Bed was large and lovely. Location was nice.

Recent stay to attend a local function. Booked by my partner for 1 night and had high expectations. We were given the Premier room which is part of the 'Executive suite'. The place itself on first glance is clean and well presented. The clubhouse had some nice food and drinks and breakfast the next day was a buffet with reasonable choice but wasnt included in the price of the room. The room at first impression was big and had a view across Coleford, however the hotel as a whole needs a freshen up in places. Paint coming off the handrails on the stairs. The room had a small recent makeover by the looks but the painters were in a hurry and a bit slapdash with the edging work along the walls to the ceiling. The bathroom had a cracked bath panel and the sink had a crack also. No hairdryer but I think thats a standard these days, no heated towel rail either but did have a large radiator in the main room. The furniture was nice with a small sofa, coffee table, a unit with a decent LCD TV on it, some chairs and a desk, and the big bed was comfortable but the room was lacking a little kitchen area as it had a small fridge dropped in one side of the room with a kettle and usual selection of teas and coffees placed on it. Could do with a small fridge unit and worktop here as there is plenty of room in there to place one, just looks a bit of a last minute after thought. Overall its ok if your not too fussy on these points, it was peaceful and felt safe and didnt seem too busy at the time of our stay. Great location with the surrounding scenery and visitor attraction of the Forest of Dean. Would stay again but the room itself isnt exactly the quality of an executive suite of a country club...

The hotel was wonderful. The room 5 out of 5. The staff amazing. They looked after me a lot. Clean 5 out of 5. Staff 5 out of 5. Food 5 out of 5. Please don't miss a chance to stay here.

Absolutely disgusting room… not clean…. Two holes in my duvet… stained duvet showing through the bed sheets…. Tv remote was filthy, shower curtain was smelling foul of damp and mold … no cold water as both taps are boiling hot… can hear water running through the pipes all night… overall I slept ok but I just did not feel clean sleeping in that bed

Hotel is about right for the price. Staff friendly and helpful, calm atmosphere, but...Mattresses VERY firm. People on the golf green can get very close to room windows. No hairdryer in room (but available from reception).

Rooms were rather dated but clean and in full working order. Service by HOTEL staff were amazing! Maxine at reception was absolutely lovely - informative and friendly when we saw her, even the cleaner ( who told us it was her first shift and apologised for “getting in our way” whilst we played a family game!!!!)Unfortunately the great service finished there….. we were told we had to “choose” between the bar or restaurant menu and even thought my daughter wanted a main course off the “day menu” which we were happy to pay full price for, we were made to feel an inconvenience! At one point, we accepted we would order hers to the restaurant and ours to the bar (as we wanted the bar menu). The restaurant staff and especially the “manager” , were rude, informative and ignored our table on several occasions. We had finished plates on our table for 30 minutes before they were cleared. Parts of our meal were missing, which we had to have for, no apology or comment. After 4 days here we thought best to stay a night and enjoy the facilities on premises, but just I am really disappointed and wish we didn’t spend our last night here! Absolutely gutted, is an understatement.

Lovely stay, excellent value. Breakfast was very well cooked and good quality. Comfortable bed and quiet meant a good night's slight. A little update needed but only minor. Hot taps way too hot so a little adjustment would be great.
