This site works perfectly fine. It acts as a middle man between the buyer and the local auction houses in the various market towns, nothing more than that. You buy from the auction house and are made well aware of the fees they will charge on the hammer price in advance of bidding. These fees (usually around 30%), unfortunately, are standard within the local auction house world. You should bid based on what the *total* cost to you will be and then you will be fine. You also need to be aware that if you cannot collect then postage will be expensive as a packaging firm has to be employed to package the (often fragile) goods and then put them into the postage or courier system.

I use Saleroom to search for items, which I then bid on/buy either directly bidding with the auction house, or I use a different auction platform if available, like EasyliveAuction, because it can be considerably cheaper. Saleroom's fees are ludicrous and have increased through time. If they were less greedy I would still use them. They also lost most of my previous purchases some time ago, so it isn't like the premium you pay is going towards a premium customer service. Many auction houses seem to have worked out that they can cut out Saleroom and save their customers money by running their own platforms, so it is worth checking if the auction house you are bidding with does this.

Just because they are merely a conduit for other Auction Houses doesn't mean they can abandon all responsibility for those Companies trading practices. East Bristol recently charged me £27 to post a gold ring hammer price of £130. This was in addition to buyer's premium of £30 and internet fee ££7.73. FAR TOO MUCH. Similar package via the Post Office would have been £6 including insurance. Simply a rip off and The Saleroom disassociate themselves from the policies of Companies they promote. Happy to take their commission so NOT the right answer.IN RESPONSE TO REPLYYou 'facilitate the sale'? You promote the Company and earn commission of course you have input but choose not to be involved. Similar Data Companies and internet service providers have learnt to their costs that they bear some responsibility.

I got multiple bad experiences with the Auction and the delivery from this website. The worst things is in my last won bid, the item do not ship by MBE. Auction always redirect the answer to the shipping company. My item Worth only for £35, i already made payment and shipping fee for £35, after the MBE collect my item, they want to charge me again for total 80. Then i contact the saleroom CS for full assistance and help. After long communication, the conclution that buyer must coordinate by self to both party from auction and delivery. That's so funny. Because we buy from thesaleroom website and no buyer protection or good help (No responsibility at all). Thus there is no reviews system on it so we can not learn from reviews before buying to avoid the matters. No more buying from this website.

Was not made clear that the site only allows bids before the auction lot starts, once live all my bidding attempts had an error message and item I wanted was lost. What is the point unless I'm missing something.

I've used the saleroom for years. Different auctions have different rates, not all expensive! Different rates for shipping again depends on the auction. I suggest you read the rates and shipping costs for the auctions your interested in and then you shouldn't have any complaints. The bidding is great and reliable unlike some of its competitors.

This site is like a pirates cove of auctioneers waiting to charge you excessive fees. The fees end up costing more than the item bought privately. This site has quickly turned into a method of purchase for unsuspecting buyers who know very little about auction fees. I mean 40% to buy and 30% to sell as well as a few hidden percentages here and there. Like 70% of the cost of an item that is not reduced to take into account the fees. Then the auction house and this site themselves try to add to your woes with excessive fees for postage and carriage.Have you noticed how very quickly the auction sites went from warehouses to all singing and dancing designer bourgeois cafes by charging excessive fees. This site is also responsible for the purchases you make in the same way the credit card companies are responsible.. If you have become a victim to these auction houses you should consider suing the website that facilitated the sale. This site is no longer fit for purpose. The site should show the cost of the item including fees, but they won't because you wouldn't buy.

I’ve been on this site for a good few years now and bid on many items . The overall item selection can not be faulted .Here is my issue with a number of the auction houses . I have seen up to 40% inc tax buyers fees . That is quite frankly a daylight robbery , I can buy most things privately way cheaper in fact some things are cheaper than the sales tax fees! This when the majority of buyers take note of the fees will be the auction houses end .I know they can not do things for free and need to make money but this for me was the last straw . Don't think you will get a bargain for that reason take a start price of no less than £300 for a particular item put the fee and there you go, when the 300 was a fair used price . Not a good decision to get involved anymore plus the fact they are pretty uninformed on some items makes buying a bit of a gamble .Bye bye Saleroom , I won’t be back .

Left a bid with the saleroom. Guess what - the auctioneer starts high to garner in the high bids left in the salerooms and bang. The first bid was my highest bid. A great big con. Won't do that again.

We got ripped off by Morgan Auction Houses.Paid in total with fees, shipping and import tax…a whopping $1000.What we received was a colour photo of copy of a TWA poster.I stupidly thought that the Saleroom may help us but alas No.The Saleroom, I was told is just a platform for auction houses….The best they could do was send an email on my behalfThis rip auction house is still listed on the Saleroom Website…So Beware…if something goes wrong they don’t help!Damian
