Chiltern Retreat Rural Camping
Beautiful countryside, great pubs nearby, spacious and flat pitches, mixture of open and woodland pitches. However it says it's family friendly but the (clean, well appointed) loos are actually quite far from some pitches (>3 minutes with a small child) and whilst groups are entreated to be quiet so they don't disturb adjacent campers beyond 10pm there were large groups partying loudly til 1am on Friday and Saturday nights with absolutely no recourse to do anything about it.

We were in the park field by ourselves as the group was 50 plus so not sure on the main campsite but park field has a toilet block another 2 outdoor showers (enclosed in a hut) but most importantly free fire pits and wood! The field was also massive and our 50 tents took up no space at all, i.e. plenty of room for multiple different groups of kids to run around and play games. All in all, it was a lovely weekend.

Arrived at the campsite approximately 5 in the evening and the atmosphere was brilliant and very nice breeze. The lady owner at the Campsite is so kind and given very nice private pitch within woods with BBQ machine and fire pit. Our enjoyment started after we set up our tents through out the night until morning. The campsite is really good for families and I would recommend for everyone who wants enjoy the life in woods for few days.

Farm camp with lambs, a pony, pheasants and guinea fowl. They have good clean facilities, toilets, showers, washing up areas with fridges and freezers and sockets to charge electrical goods. There is a large field that has big spaces for large social gatherings. At the weekend the Rebellion bar (a local brewery) and pizza restaurant is open (a converted horse trailer in the park).

Great tent pitches in the woods, feels very secluded. Only downside are the showers with lukewarm water and sprinkling everything (don't hang your towel on the hook at the door, as the water will completely soak it)

We had our best camping experience at Chiltren Retreat. We pitched our tent at the field as the woods were still muddy. The field has a great view. It was lovely to watch the sunset. The staff is extremely helpful and always there whenever needed. You feel that you are at wilderness but facilities are just behind the trees and easy to access whenever you need it. Toilets and showers were spotless. There is also a washing up area and fridges available. We are so pleaesed to find this camping spot that is only an hour away from London. We are definetely going back soon.

Can’t thank Niki enough for her efforts to make our stay the most comfortable and enjoyable experience. She went well out of her way to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. Her generosity didn’t go unnoticed either. The campsite is wild and you’re immerse in the beautiful nature surroundings, with lots of space around you (rather than crammed in). There are also showers and loos, and access to a fridge and freezer (fab!).If you like being in nature, and want to scape from standard, crammed campsites, this is the place for you.

Pros: large pitches, lovely views, great pub nearby, washing up liquid provided, freezer and fridges.Cons: Poor customer service. No one met us on site, so we were not informed of the facilities. This led to us using a porta loo on the field that we believed was for communal use, but got told off by a large (15 tents) group who had hired the loo. No map of the site and poor signage (I ended up walking into the mens urinals as the ladies is advertised as a shower). The toilet block was 3 minutes walk, which is too far with small children and led to nightly alfresco wees behind our tent. There was no shelter on the large field. Huge unruly groups of tents who played loud music until midnight and then talked and shouted until 2am. No onsite shop and nearest shop a 10min drive (could have been closer, but no information on site as to another location). The worst shower block I have ever used. The trickle of lukewarm water sprayed everywhere (due to limescale build up on the shower), meaning you had to get undressed in the communal area which lacked privacy due to large glass windows in the door leading on to the toilets. The track to the toilet block is also the car access, which therefore makes it unsafe for children to walk to the toilets on their own. No play area for the children and the wood was full of tents, so didn't appear accessible for our children. Overall wouldn't return.
